Cameron Watson: So much easier to hold than the little ones you can buy. I use a carbide knife sharpener as the striker. It works great

Joe b.: I'm using part of a old bimetal blade from a saws all as a striker. Only needs one pass and it's like the 4th of July.

austin: This product is so good. THere are so many more sparks than your average flint and steel. Buy it

Melinda Burns: I like the striking distance I have with this longer one. For some reason I thought it came with the striker, but it didn't. I had one from a shorter ferro rod I have that is quite worn. I put a key chain ring on it and a small oval wire carabiner on it to hold the striker. It is a little heavier than I anticipated, but as long as it works like it should that's fine.

When it comes to Ferro Rods, size does matter. The reason for this is due to physics & mathematics, both of which was my primary focus in college. It all measures down to surface area, and length. A small ferro rod will produce less sparks, that is just science and not opinion. The amount and temperature of the sparks is what will ignite the tinder.

People that have problems lighting their timber with ferro rods either has a combination or one of the other problems; not enough sparks or sparks are too low a temperature or a combination of both. (this is assuming your tinder is not to blame)

Being an older gentleman reaching 50 years in the not-too-distant future (sadly), I must say that I got tired having to press so hard on my striker against smaller, thinner, less 'hot' ferro rods.

Con: heavier than smaller Ferro rods, and hole is a tad small to feed paracord through, so make sure you melt the tip of cord 1st, and have patience

Pros: Hotter sparks up to 3000°F,...

Jamie S B: Works great and is easy to use, because it's pre drilled I put a piece of paracord to make it easy to hold on to

United Kingdom on Feb 24, 2022

"timhg": Good size. Great amount of sparks and easy to use.

Mick ‘o’ the woods !: Great size: fits in the hand well and is easy to use. This will last for years so great value for money

United Kingdom on Oct 07, 2021

john da watch guy: Much larger than expected a really good sparker and very good bit of kit.
It will last for a while under heavy use and is always with me because I was taught from an early age a sharp edge and fire are your best friends and for this price you can't go wrong.

United Kingdom on Jul 17, 2021

RobCH: Produces lots of hot sparks reliably with very little pressure. Good size for big hands and easy positioning close to tinder. Early days but it seems to wear smoothly rather than forming ripples. A strip of Pro-Gaff wrapped round the drilled end keeps the grip secure. The large diameter means it won't fit standard leather firesteel loops on knife sheaths. Excellent all round, and is now an automatic pack. Highly recommended.
