Baldwin Torrey Pines Single Cylinder Square Deadbolt Lock for Home Security

Ron Shiromoto: I bought a Baldwin dead bolt to replace an old one. It had a smart key, but my old key did not fit into lock so smart key function did not work. I took the new lock to a locksmith in order to rekey it to my old Baldwin key. I was told that it would not work because the key was not compatible and that the although the lock said Baldwin, the parts were actually Quick Set which is a low end lock. I think the description should have noted that the lockset was not totally a Baldwin product. I thought I was buying a high quality Baldwin Lock, but I ended up with a low quality lock. I was told I needed to go to a reputable Baldwin dealer for the proper key combination. Really disappointed with the lack of accurate product description. I did not return the product as I paid a lot of money to have the lock installed.

The ability to self rekey is the biggest bonus. I use the feature when I have house guest or house sitter keys given out. It’s also great for rental and AirBNB lock changes. Super easy to do.

Definitely added peace of mind in a stylish way.

Smooth mechanism, and the solidity of the handle really gives a feeling of satisfaction of having purchased something of good quality.

Earth SpiritsEarth Spirits: It is exciting to see Baldwin licensing Kwikset’s Smartkey technology to use in their Prestige Series locks. It won’t be able to use the traditional C-Keyway that Baldwin has been using for many years, rather instead this Prestige Series uses KW1 keyways. So this lock cannot be re-keyed to match other Baldwin keys that may still be in use, but It can be re-keyed to match Kwikset keys. It is important know this one limitation before purchasing.

The price point on the deadbolt is favorable compared to other popular manufacturer’s. Baldwin has always been a premium price over most of the competition. It does appear that the quality of the lock is also more on par with the competition. It doesn’t have quite the heft and mass of their other handcrafted series. However with that being said it does have an excellent finish and good looks.

The deadbolt took me longer to install than normal. It has a dual rod turning system that I was not used to. The keyed cylinder is lower down on the exterior mount and the D-rod coming out of it actually goes underneath the throw bolt. It then mates up with the interior portion of the deadbolt and thru a gear system turns another...
