Szoo2: I’ve used a number of grain fillers in the past but they all had some color. They were messy and stunk up the shop. This one is clear. It goes on easily and hardens pretty fast, about an hour for a second or third coat. This is also water borne so clean up it easy, low VOC. Be patient and plan on three coats. Don’t put it on too thick because that will only cause you to sand more, stays wet longer and risk sanding through. Work it in and remove any excess. Sand lightly between coat to give the next coat some bite and flatten high spots. It does dry clear unless you applied it too thick. Then it could be cloudy.

Woodworker425: Pleasantly surprised. Kind of has the consistency of those jars of Cristo back in the day. When applying use those Bondo applicators to push it into the grain and cracks. Gently wet sand before and after the last coat and it will make finish application a lot easier. It gives the wood more of a factory feeling and appearance.
A little goes a long way. Good product. Will buy again.

JR: I was recommended this product and I thought this would be a better option when it comes to sealing the grain on oak cabinets. I followed the directions and I was still seeing the grain on the oak wood. I gave it 3 coats prior to painting. I went back to using the patch and paint spackle. Also glaze & spot putty works great. What I paid for a pint of Aqua Coat, I could buy two 1 qt of the spackle and still have some change left over. I guess it works for others, but didn't work for my needs. Always looking for that one product that works, this one just didn't meet that. Funny thing is I saw all these youtubers recommending this product, but if Aqua is sending me this product for free I would do the same.

Hailey: Why to use and sands nicely, did 3 coats on oak and still the grain is a little visible, way less than without a filler, not sure if you could completely get rid of the grain in red oak that is not quarter sawn. Would recommend.

Amazon Customer: It is a very good putty and it is clear, I am looking for clear putty and it is very good. I deducted one star because of the price and how it works. The price is a lot higher than the price in the US. If the coating is thicker, cracking will occur.

Matt: Used this to fill the grain on a swamp ash guitar body. I was going for a natural look, but should have stained to body with amber stain first. This stuff dries crystal clear. I used 3 coats grain filler and guitar body was completely smooth. My second mistake was finishing with Tru-oil. I knew there was some risk, but thought I would just sand it down and start from scratch if it didn't turn out. This stuff was so hard to see that it made it difficult to remove all of it from the surface. The Tru-oil didn't darken the wood as much over this grain filler. I also think the oil maybe ate away some of the grain filler because after the oil cured it was like the grain filler sunk and now there are tiny divots where deepest grain is. It still looks great on the front and back of the guitar, but the cutaway areas (where there are most curves) are blotchy from either removing too much or (more probable) not enough of the AquaCoat. I highly recommend the AquaCoat for water-based finishes. It really is as advertised and makes it easier to achieve a more beautiful natural finish.

Jeff: For those that are looking to use this product...I can tell it works. I just finished doing a complete kitchen
change over from 1980's yellow stained oak to white. Did many drawer fronts, as well as over 20 door fronts including 3 double size pantry doors. For all of this I used almost 4 containers. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Barely a grain shows through when we looked at it from every angle in the direct sunlight.
Before tackling the job I used a couple of extra door fronts as test pieces to make sure I got the best results.
The first I did two coats of aqua coat clear, then primer, then two coats of milk paint and a final clear finish all applied with a paint sprayer. There were still some grains coming through.

The next try, I used three coats of aqua coat clear. The fist coat very liberally applied like you'd apply car
wax. Then the next coat a little less liberally but use it, and then third coat a light finish. Of course leaving time between coats to dry and sand. Sanding couldn't be easier. Then primer, paint and finish.
They look like they came fresh white from the factory. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. The extra effort was...

Stratman351Stratman351: I bought this to use on a Tacoma DR-20 acoustic guitar where I had to remove a defective poly finish (long story, but anyone who's had a Tacoma know it) that had bubbled up after 20 years. Once I removed the finish with heat and a scraper (a real chore, but no good alternative), I followed up by sanding the rosewood back and sides to bare wood. I came across this product in a YT video by a luthier who was answering a viewer's question about alternatives to using epoxy as a pore-filler (didn't know anyone used that, what a hassle that must be).

Anyway, this product is REALLY easy to use and does a great job. Upon opening the tub it looked like a cross between Crisco and white vaseline, but it's water-based so there's absolutely no oily or greasy feel. A little goes a long way. I dabbed some on the guitar back with a credit card (see the pic) and it was MORE than enough to do the whole back. It dries so fast that you'll want to be sure and wipe off the excess as you go, especially if you're doing a large area where it's drying behind the area you're currently working on. I used 3 - 4 coats, very lightly scuff-sanding with 320-grit paper between coats. The result was a very...

Harb43: I bought this product to fill grain on oak kitchen cabinets which I was about to paint. We did not want to see the distinctive oak grain through the new paint. We had already decided to replace the original doors with new paint-grade, maple-framed doors with MDF raised panels. So I had only to contend with the face frames and end panels, a total of about 40 square feet. I used much less than a fifth of the container on the frames and panels of our 22-door kitchen. This quart container would do at least 2 or 3 kitchens this size, doors and all.
I applied the filler with a 2" putty knife, spreading thinly and diagonally across each area of grain. A little goes an awfully long way. It dries fairly quickly when on a surface, though the open container doesn't exhibit excessive drying. The product does shrink quite a bit, even in wood pores. Second or maybe third coats will be necessary for good results. Overnight drying leaves a hard surface (a good thing!). I found that any ridges I may have left between strokes could be smoothed next day with a fine scraper. 220 or 150 sandpaper on a hard wooden sanding block clogs rather quickly, especially if you work too fast. 220 sanding pads...
