Snapdragon: Amy Schumer has had an interesting life and as she describes in this book, it hasn’t always been easy. Both her parents married three times and did damage in various ways. She’s honest about the impact and wise enough now to set healthy boundaries while still loving them. Her father has MS, which gave rise to an unfortunate lack of bowel control. As in her stage acts, she talks a lot about sex too, detailing some less than stellar experiences. At one stage it became clear that the relationship she was in was abusive and that if she valued her life she needed to get out. She has a lot of very sane things to say about the subject of female self-acceptance. It’s also clear that she has always had a great work ethic and having decided to make a career out of comedy, worked her butt off through highs and lows, putting in the hard yards. Like many a creative person, and despite having a reputation as sassy and loud, she’s actually an introvert, needing to withdraw and meditate to stay together. After a cinema shooting where her movie was showing, she began to work on gun violence and includes at the end ways in which people can get involved and a list of politicians who’ve...

Scotia: This is a very honest biography of Amy's life to date. Although peppered by a great deal of humour there is no doubting a rich vein of sincerity in the many issues that the book touches on. There is a refreshing candor to the way that she describes her upbringing, her parents' relationship problems and the disintegration of what many would consider the ideal family, together with later failures in her own relationships. Likewise she is unapologetic when discussing her own promiscuity and issues with alcohol. What no-one sees coming is that Amy, who is known to all as one tough cookie, somehow becomes trapped in the worst type of relationship. It is a testament to her that she manages to recover from this situation and now helps other women to do the same. So, what sustains Amy? It is the genuine love and affection that she feels for her sister her father, her colleagues and her fans.
However don't go buying this book for your maiden aunt as she may well not appreciate the bawdy humour throughout. I loved it and I am sure many of you will too. I hardly know her as a stand-up or TV personality but I am deeply impressed by her downright determination and hard work, with an...

Amazon Kunde: I always loved amy schumers stand up comedy! but when I came across her book I was hesitating to buy it because I wasn't sure if and how that comedy would transfer into the written word. Having said that, I really enjoyed reading this book!! No, it isnt stand up comedy and not the funniest thing I ever read, but it is a really great book with lots of interesting, refreshingly honest, often funny, sometimes sad and very different stories about her life and her early years. She tackles I wide range of topics, doesnt shy away from the really personal stuff and things others would be embarrassed to admit. Because every chapter stands (mostly) on its own, I admit that I put the book down in between reading. Sometimes for a few days. But I always enjoyed coming back to it. I always had it in my handbag and enjoyed reading a few chapters when I was travelling/ on the road/ during a break at work...
I found it to be a great read: it is a lighthearted, funny, very honest and inspiring book! I can only remmond it (I already lend it to a friend :-))

Charlotte: I feel like Amy has been one of those people that we have been bombarded with for the past 2 years in the media. I also didn't enjoy her movie Trainwreck as much as I thought I would. However, after reading this book I have warmed to her so much. She is like a real life Bridget Jones who refuses to apologize for her love of pasta, wine, sex and speaking liberally. She also avidly hates Donald Trump and raises awareness on important issues such as Gun Crime and homophobia. I would be laughing out loud in one chapter, then cringing in the next, crying in the next.. her life has certainly been a roller coaster and I was surprised to learn that she has a disabled father and was raped as a teenager. She strikes me as an intelligent, kind and funny woman who despite having suffered some awful personal tragedies (including a feud with her mother, domestic abuse from a boyfriend) just wants to make a positive difference in the world..

JodiR: I write this book as someone who is not a huge fan of her work - I didn't find the movie 'Trainwreck' super awesome, I fell asleep during it, and her comedy is a little 'too much' for me at times. That said, I do admire her work ethic and drive to be a success and this book gives you a look into her life (as much as any celebrity will really divulge) that gives you a glimpse into who she is and how she became the success she is today.
She is not a cookie cutter Hollywood Barbie Doll and makes no apologies for this and as with anyone who is willing to be opinionated and/or different she is going to have 'trolls'/haters/bullies and she seems to be able to take this in stride.
This is not some life changing book, it is a humorous book about a celebrity you may or may not like. I am thinking that if you like her, you will probably enjoy this.

Customer: I have never written an Amazon review but I feel like I owe it to Amy. She has done so much for women - I remember seeing her stand-up tour a few year's back on New Year's Eve in San Francisco (possibly 2013?)-- and have been a fan of hers before she got super super famous. I remember her then boyfriend and she performed together on new year's eve (Anthony Jeselnik) and they kissed after their set--I remember thinking how this would one day be a memory for her (I didn't think that would last even though I really had no insight into their relationship--just thought he wasn't my favorite)--and it was another reminder that people like Amy are living and creating memories in the spotlight--dating people who could be mistakes and doing it all in public for us to see. I'm impressed by how real and raw she is able to be despite being so in the spotlight today. I can't put down the book - I'm about to go into labor in two days and it's a welcome distraction from real life! She reveals painful and honest stories about her life I never knew before - but important lessons that women need to hear about domestic abuse and rape. Even she says in the book people are surprised to learn the stuff...

Alice: "I've never been a smile and nod type of girl, nor have I ever been one to get out of the kitchen."
I'm probably like a lot of the people who will read this book. I've always counted myself as an Amy Schumer fan, although I haven't seen Trainwreck and am like a season behind Inside Amy Schumer. I read obsessively every female comedian memoir as soon as it comes out. (For the record, the best is Bossypants, followed by Is Everyone Hanging Out... and Girl Walks Into a Bar.) I was a little nervous going into this book because I've been disappointed by the recent spate of female comedian essay books, and reading the first chapter of this book only made me more nervous. Amy jumps right in with a "Letter to My Vagina," skipping the usual "Hi there Reader" introduction. I was worried I wouldn't be able to connect with her as an author, and that the book might be full of over the top "let me shock you!" moments.
I was wrong on both counts. Oh, sure, Amy doesn't skimp on the sex stuff, but the book is as tasteful as I could imagine Amy Schumer writing. Yes, it's funny-- Amy's voice comes through on the page well, so you can imagine the dry way she says one thing or the way...

Sonia Christensen: I think Amy Schumer is very funny, so I had to read her book, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo. I had a difficult time getting into it. I had to imagine Amy's voice dictating to me, and that wasn't very easy. Then I had a friend tell me it's better on Audible. So I listened while I read and got totally into it.
Amy writes as she talks, and I loved it. Her very real struggles, accomplishments, and everything (I mean everything, she didn't hold back on anything) in between. I laughed, I cried, I smiled, and I became obsessed with finishing this book. I really enjoyed Amy's very honest words and the way she talks about gun violence and abuse, which are both difficult topics, was not offensive, and very serious. I liked knowing one of my favorite comedians has a very serious side, too.
All in all, I learned many details I may or may not need to know in the future, but I was entertained throughout Amy's book.
