bm2ai: Never in my life have I encountered an author that not only gets me on a scary level, but also makes me literally laugh out loud while reading their books. That was until I started reading Jenny’s books. Pick them all up, you won’t regret a second you spend reading her work! Then go back and read them again. Promise, they’re still hilarious as the first time!

Gareth Lloyd: Great book, really inspiring with bucket lists of humour. Having similar health issues to myself it's been a great read and has helped me to look for survival strategies in new places.

Karin Lynn Gamble: Having only a few of the issues Jenny lives with I enjoyed her humorous take on living with Anxiety, family and life. She comes to mind when similar situations arise and Always makes me smile

Emi Bevacqua: This is the second Jenny Lawson memoir I've read, and while it's all more of the same stuff or similar to what I read in Furiously Happy, she still does manage to crack me up.
I'm studying to be an Elderly Patient Advocate now, and surprisingly I did find a couple things in this book that relate to my coursework. For example when Lawson described her difficulties with meds and claimed what she needs is a Drug Butler, I laughed because that's kind of part of my job. The other thing was her less funny, more Sisyphus-like experience fighting to get her ludicrously expensive medication covered by health insurance, first by requesting and then by appealing, and finally filing for an external or independent review. Her step-by-step description of the painful process entitled "An Open Letter to My Health Insurance Company," made for a much more comprehensive lesson than any I've received in class.

Jennie Sydney: A book has to blow me away to get a review…consider me blown.
In her book, Jenny talks about how she likes to think about how our souls are like glass spheres we carry around. And like all glass things that go through the kind of crazy life this world puts us through, shards break off.
The shard of her soul she left for us in this book “Broken” to let others (like me) that feel this way, know we are not alone, has over the course of this read been my life saver.
She said this herself about those who leave these kinds of beautiful shards for others to find, “Those people [Jenny Lawson among them] make magic words and bittersweet songs and raucous art and beautiful pain. Those people make the world go around.” (p.277)
The day I started this book was my best friend’s father’s funeral which reminded me of my own father’s that had happened only 8 months before who died from COVID. The day I finished this book (today) is the 1yr anniversary of my father’s death.
As a woman who’s struggled with chronic pain, depression, and anxiety my entire life, this last year I’ve seen so many shards of my soul break off I’ve wondered if I...

Ferocious Reader: "'It’s called a cock chafer.' And I must have looked at him in disbelief because he stammered a bit and said, 'Humbug. Billy witch. Snartlegog?' He stared at me. “'Spangbeetle?' And I was like, 'Did you just cast a spell on me?'”
I adore Jenny Lawson; she speaks my language. I've known very few others in the world as weird, but I guess there must be a lot of you since her books sell so well. I swear, her tangents of bizarre antidotes were stolen from conversations I've had with my small circle of like-minded weirdos or straight from the very 'out there' voice in my head that can turn anything into a hilarious story--real or so far beyond the normal wild imagination that it must have gone through several black holes.
"The doctor told me that before we started he needed to find out 'where my thumb lives' and I was like, 'Are you sure you’re a real doctor?'"
She also talks about things no one else does. Yes, we've become more open with and accepting of mental disorders, but we're still just scraping the surface. We don't talk about what it's like to worry that a spell of depression might last too long or pull too deep and I may come home to my husband...

Archer: I loved this book. Just the right touch of humor and humanity. Still not sure if Victor is a fictional character. Lol
