Rivers: I have enjoyed reading this book with my children so far this Advent. They have been enjoying it while they colour their Jesse tree ornaments that I obtained from a different source. My only issue with the book is that it doesn’t have all of the traditional Jesse devotions. Notable ones that are missing are Rahab, Esther, and Jonah. I had to find these readings from another source. It also adds some readings such as “prophecy of a new covenant” that are not traditional and aren’t story based. As well, I disliked the devotion that was written about the angel visiting Mary. It barely mentions Mary at all and doesn’t talk about the importance of her trusting God and saying “yes” to becoming Jesus’ mother.

Luke Ashauer: I like everything about this product! The devotionals are well written with lots of scriptures. The song suggestions every day are really nice and the line drawings at the beginning of each chapter are lovely. It is a simple book but I liked it much better than other Jesse tree devotionals that I've purchased. We will be using it every year!

Sarah: I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I ordered this book, but it is exactly what I hoped it would be. There are devotions each day of advent for both children and adults. My kids are 2 and 4 and so far it is working well. My four year old understands the story and is able to answer the questions at the end of the devotion for him. It is well laid out, giving clear instructions for what symbol you will need each day for your Jesse tree. I like that each devotion is based heavily on the scripture reading as well. I am very happy with this book and look forward to revisiting it year after year.

NMG: This is a wonderful little book that does it's job clearly and efficiently without any extra fluff. You get a section on "What is the Jesse Tree" followed by "How to Use Your Jesse Tree," then a convenient list of the ornaments. The chapters are organized like such:
Day X
Title
Picture of the Symbol
Symbol Description
Memory Verse
Hymns to Sing
Then you get two more sections, one for kids, one for adults. Both follow the same format: Scripture verse address/es, Devotion (4-6 paragraphs), Questions (4-6), and a short prayer. Each day takes is on 2 or 3 pages total.
Like I said, efficient.
The only thing that I would have liked added would be if the entire scripture verses would be included, maybe even in the back of the book, especially for those folks who may not have a Bible on standby. Our plan is to use our Bible regardless, so it works out perfectly for us.

melindajane: The idea behind this book - of examining the lineage of Jesus leading up to Christmas is a good one and the creating of the baubles to hang on a tree is also good. However, the language used in the book was rather old fashioned. Also some of the days didn't seem to be following the lineage. The baubles were time consuming to make, though effective. As ever it is good to take time out to pause each day in Advent and remember the spiritual wonder of what the season is all about. The suggested readings were good but there were too many each day and the songs suggested were very antiquated. We adapted it to fit our family better. Advent is a very busy and time which time and this book, while good in much of it's content demands quite a lot of effort and time in its usage which was not ideal.

Snapples: I would give this book more than 5 stars if possible! I love that there are little studies/devotions simple enough for children and then a slightly longer for adults. There are bible verses for look up and discussion questions appropriate for small children. The organization of the concepts presented in this devotion are absolutely wonderful from explaining the origins of earth, Jesus, through the family of Jesse all the way to commemorating the birth of the Savior of the world. My husband positively participates in the readings, bible look up, and discussion. My 7 year old son thanks me for the little family bible study. Review of the book is so easy. We have made the ornaments for a little tree and I show them to the older son, but do not keep them out for fear of them being destroyed by the 4 year old. Making the ornaments and so many of them can take some time so try to start well before November. Absolutely delightful and inspiring information...a must have for all families!
