This is an unforgettable stony, juxtaposing a world of swords and heroines with advanced technology. I just wish I could follow Lynesse and Nyr for a few hundred more pages. This spare and well written tale is not to be missed!

As unexpected a sci fi turn as LeGuin or Iain Banks, couched in a fantasy epic. Great characters. Great setup. Anthropology. Linguistics, post humanism, ethics, mental health, love, despair, etc. Worthy of sequels. Could be a franchise.

lynesse ist die unbedeutende 4.tochter der königin und sucht bei ihm, dem zauberer, hilfe gegen einen dämonen, der das reich ihrer mutter verwüstet. nyr soll eigentlich nur beobachten und keinesfalls eingreifen. aber da seine kollegen wohl nicht wiederkommen und die prinzessin hübsch, schlau und sehr überzeugend ist…. hervorragend geschrieben, spannend, originell. adrian tschaikovsky ist ein neuer stern im sf-fantasy-universum und konnte schon bedeutende preise einheimsen. seine gründlichkeit und originalität erinnert an ursula k leguin.
