NeilNeil: Got this to replace a broken one, and managed to break the post while trying to remove the old one. Got a used sensor from eBay and when it broke, I used a heat gun to help in the removal of the broken cups, which made it much easier to get them off.

So I bought this replacement, but broke the sensor trying to install it, so I couldn't use it. Then I was able to use it to replace the broken cups on the used sensor I had purchased. Then I broke this one and bought two more of these, one to fix my sensor and one spare.

I tried breaking another arm off one of the broken ones, and wasn't able to do it by hand. I'm guessing there was a weak spot like a bubble in the plastic because it shouldn't be breaking right at the thickest part of the arm like that.

The reason I keep breaking them is that I put them under harsh use on the roof of a vehicle that occasionally travels at highway speeds, so I realize that they would last much longer in someone's backyard or on the roof of their house. Still, I believe that a defect in the plastic is the main cause of the failures because like I said, I couldn't break either of the remaining arms by hand with several pounds of...

TreeFarmerTreeFarmer: I inherited the AcuRite weather station when we bought this house. I liked having the weather data, but thought having the wind data would be nice too (plus looking at the sensor with only 1 cup left on it was disconcerting)

I was amazed to find that I could get the replacement cups! So many things today are just throw away - something broken? ... order a whole new one ... I like to retain what's working and replace parts.

Well the replacement cups fit just perfectly! The trick was getting the old ones off. You'll see in some of the reviews that people had a hard time (but many didn't) - I think it might depend on how old the unit is. Anyway, I tried all of the different pulling techniques mentioned in the instructions from the company and from the reviewers ... no luck, it just wouldn't budge. So, I took a small wire cutter/nippers and clipped away at the little "dome" above where the cups had broken off ... when I got about half of it trimmed away, I was able to insert a screw driver under the remaining part and rest it on the top of the sensor assembly and pry it. I kept going around and around prying a little from each point and I finally got it to...
