F. Lett: It gives very different temperature readings from the same animal, over a space of 1-2 minutes. There doesn’t seem to be any consistency if it is consistently high or consistently low either. I thought it could be used in a veterinary clinic setting, but I wouldn’t use this thermometer at the clinic. It also doesn’t have the same accuracy as the rectal thermometer (compared the readings during anesthesia).
I have used it to get surface readings for making yogurt, and since it doesn’t require accuracy, just approximation, it works fine. Expensive for a cooking thermometer 😛.

merry: Pros for this: seems accurate, easy to use and read, switches between Celsius and Fahrenheit, and you can choose between body temp, room temp, and surface temp. Also has memory so you can store past temperatures.

There is a lot to love about this thermometer. So, why the one-star review? When taking the dog’s temperature, you need to hold this close to their ear. As it’s taking the temperature, it lets out five very shrill beeps. In your dog’s ear. The sound irritated ME, and the thermometer was nowhere near my ear. Some dogs may tolerate this, but mine does not. She wigged out when I tried it, and I wouldn’t want to subject her to that if she’s feeling fine, much less when she’s ill. Don’t understand why they don’t just have a blinking light or vibration to signal it’s taking the temperature. Took a seemingly great product and made it unusable for its intended purpose.

jlk: There is NO product information/directions on where specifically to take the dogs ear temp to achieve accuracy other than the picture on the box pointing outside the ear canal. There is NO Product Information/directions on the distance recommended between ear and thermometer to achieve accuracy. There is also NO information of what is a normal dog's ear temp to avoid googling. Takes 2 battery's rather than 3 as stated on amazon. Very easy to use. Took the thermometer to my vet appointment to determine accuracy (as well as getting instructions) and thermometer is accurate!!
