Iris W: This is one I’ll revisit often when I need some ideas. Love that the authors give practical tips and examples with summaries, and not just parenting theory. Have already recommended this book a few friends who were new parents.

Taylor Kaszas: I listened to the audiobook when my son was about 2 years old. I got this for my husband for Christmas and man has it been the best little tool box for parenting. We still use so many of the tips in this book for my now 4 year old and I recommend this book to anyone struggling to wrangle tiny beings. Good parenting is not for the weak, but this book has made such a difference in our lives.

megan: I’ve been using snippets here and there for my 2 and 4 year olds and where we used to have conflicts and yelling we now (mostly) have teamwork and cooperative problem solving. It is so useful, and really works if you’re patient enough to apply the information and follow the advice.

ELViS.R: This book is really helpful to parents and makes all the difference when it comes to raising responsible children who will take care of you as you grow old (because you ensured your children had the best childhood and felt understood through the right tools inside this book)

Brandee Hasenoehrl: I purchased this book at the same time as “How To Talk So Kids Will Listen, and Listen So Kids Will Talk” and decided to read this one first. As a person who grew up in a VERY emotionally abusive, unsupportive household, I knew my kids deserved better than what I got. This book has given me amazing tools, and highlighted things I thought I was doing “right” already, when in reality it just wasn’t working. You truly can strengthen your relationship and bond with your child through so many of these lessons and I am eternally grateful. Im always looking for ways to do better for my kids, this book was an amazing start.

Jp: Good advice to consider. I personally got bored with the writing style after a couple chapters; however that doesn't change the fact the advice is great food for thought. Helpful tips to consider when you want healthier options to deal with young children for sure.
Positives include:
Presents you with tools and methods in an easy to understand way each slowly building on the last presented.
Focusing on techniques that encourage a sense of confidence and feeling of appreciation in the kids while offering guidance and results for parents.
This is not a "get results you desire" book but a find a dialog with your kids book at heart.
I did see some moderate success after finishing the book.
Cons: bit too bland in the friendly "I'm just like you" writing approach. Not for me, but maybe you like that. Would have preferred less "relatable" stories and kept chapters shorter with the core message at focus.
Good quick easy read I will refer to as time goes on.

Rachel B.: Ok, so I’ve been wanting to write a review for this book since I received it – when it first came out – but I can’t find it in my house. I think that my child took it and is reading it so that he can learn all our tricks. Haha. My child doesn’t actually read yet but I am lucky I did before it went missing because it has done no less than change my relationship with him.
How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen is full of great, doable advice that is general enough for any situation, but with specific examples so that you know exactly what the authors are trying to explain. The real-life examples could easily have come from my family. For example, the child who wants something that fell into a crack in his car seat and it is inaccessible to him and to me, the driver. Joanna and Julie give great advice on how to respond to difficult situations with little kids that could easily cause a major meltdown.
For example, when the thing falls into the crack in the car seat and I can’t reach it, in the past my child would start yelling and screaming and then move into a full-on tantrum. I always felt that I had two choices:

Heather T: I absolutely love this book and recommend it to everyone I know! The tools are invaluable and the way the information is presented is easy to understand and doesn't make me feel judged for the things I do "wrong" as a parent.
