Kindle Customer: I enjoyed the book and the eccentric relationship between "Lady" and "Flo". Since my lady has apparently taken the trouble to write several times to, I believe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's publishers to point out that the term "deductive reasoning" is incorrect and that it should be "abductive reasoning", I think it only fair to point out the correct original form of words when administering a caution to a suspect. "You are not obliged to say anything, but if you choose to do so, what you do say will be put into writing and may be given in evidence." The words "against you" are never used except in old fashioned British films, not by any real officer of the law. The caution has since been added to, to ensure that the suspect is aware that failure to state something under initial caution may make it difficult to rely on later in court. At the date set in the book the form of words were as I have said. I wouldn't have been so compelled to write this if the author hadn't been so critical of Sir Arthur, and then quoted the "against you" error twice in quick succession. Chance to edit!

J. M.: This is the best book I've read in a long time. The characters are refreshingly original in the genre and the story line is out of the ordinary. I loved it!

Laurie R: I loved this sparkling murder mystery. It has intrigue, complications, humour, fabulous class breaking relationships and the characters are so full of life I was immediately immersed into the world T.E. Kinsey has created.
So much to love about this and look forward to rapidly reading the rest of the mysteries in the series.
I hope there is a TV series around or in the process of being made.
Also I really enjoyed learning some new words that were common in the period the novel is set.
Having easy access to the dictionary through kindle is fabulous.

TKAnthony: Newcomers Lady Hardcastle and her lady’s maid Florence Armstrong arrive in a sleepy English village, looking for a change of pace from their previous mysterious adventures. But something’s just not cricket…shocking murders, stealthy thefts. The police seem to have made up their minds about the guilty party. Can the intrepid duo sift through the suspects and find the perpetrators, or will the innocent hang?
Just plain fun, with wit, charm, a sprinkle of bad puns, and an appreciation for fine music and brandy.
Time to read the next one!

Kindle Customer: At first I thought it was going to be a female Bertie and Jeeves. But the relationship developed instead as one of (relative) equals. Flo still does the lions share of the housework ... )-:
No-one can touch Wodehouse, of course, for witty repartee, but this is nevertheless an engaging read and the wit is solid if not sublime. I anticipate a pleasurable perusal of the whole series.

Kminyat: I have stumbled upon a new mystery series.
I absolutely adore the relationship between Lady Hardcastle and Ms Armstrong. It made the biok so much more fun. They are clever and comical and work famously as a pair.
Lady Hardcastle and her lady's maid Ms Armstrong move from London to a small country town in order to live a more quiet and peaceful life. But a murder interrupts their peace. As they try to get settled in their new environment they also find themselves in the middle of an investigation that proves to be more complicated than they first thought.

Rahul P: I don't understand what happened. Did his ink run out? When you make readers wait for this long, you should give them a good gripping end. 3 stars for the story.
2 goes away for the hurried climax.

Cheri: I’ve discovered this series and can’t put them down. As soon as I have finished one book, I’m into the next. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of reading number nine first. I became hooked and read whatever I could get in my library. Now, at last, I’ve read book one. This is the beginning - or is it? I’m waiting for Mr. Kinsey to begin writing prequels. Oh, goodness!
