Connor: I'm a 30-something Bipolar, neurodivergent woman who lives alone. I have been eating out of a box my entire life. My mom cooked and ate out of a box so I never learned any proper kitchen and cooking skills. This book has helped TREMEDOUSLY. I took additional steps to make things easier for myself (bought glass portioning cups, rearranged my kitchen to function better for me, "cooking for one" sized cookware, vacuum sealer, ect.) but overall it's helped teach me how to cook in appropriate sized portions (we all know what it's like to cook for a family of 12 when we are just one...), how to cook chicken and fish without overcooking the every living hell out of it because of salmonella paranoia, how to roast veggies, ect. I've been able to freestyle a few meals because of this book. This book is battered to bits on my counter right now and I cooked myself dinner from it last night.

T G: It is useful for reducing traditional recipes down to one portion but doesn't really cover any imaginative recipes.

Evelena Dill Webb: so much to try. purchased this in 2020. referring to it frequently. love the alfredo sauce. and bake several of the muffin recipes in ramekins. over time we have purchased small pots, and pans, and remekins and weck storage jars. That has been a big help, thanks for the idea.

i’ve tested out many of the dessert recipes because they are wonderful for just the two of us, and no big leftovers to tempt us into overindulging.

the really great thing is that it is a continuing journey via the website. i browse through every now and then to discover new recipes using the hubs as a guinea pig, (he doesn’t mind). a while back i discovered the small loaf french bread recipe. somehow never quite managed to slip it into the schedule until yesterday. the ratios are perfect! such an easy recipe. low gluten jovial einkorn flour came out of the cabinet and a couple of hours later i had a new loaf sitting on the cooling rack…admittedly it did not make it through the evening. after running errands we came home and ate chicken leftovers over toasted bread slices and then butter and jam on the remainder of the loaf for dessert. the taste is spot on. and i plan to practice my...

Becky at the beach: Now that Jim and I are empty nesters I have been getting into cooking for one or two. I also wanted to up my own lunch game, so tired of frozen meals and lunch meat. One dish meals give me a chance to have a delicious meal with real food.

I have followed Joanie's blog for awhile and made several of her recipes, so I pre-ordered the ultimate cooking for one cookbook.

I am older and the cookbooks I grew up with often didn't have a lot of pictures. It is not something that bothers me at all, but I know for some people it's an issue. There are some lovely yummy looking pictures in here, but a lot of recipes don't have pictures.

The recipes are laid out with the ingredient list, then the easy to follow clear directions.

As an experienced cook and baker, when I first started the smaller batch kitchen, I thought scaling down would be a breeze. not so much, baking times, proportions, and especially baking can be a challenge. I like having it done for me.

The recipes are tasty, the crawfish pasta is wonderful. I have gone through and made notes so If I need two tablespoons onion in one recipe, I've made note of other recipes where I can use the rest of...
