LeSh: Maybe it says it in the description and I didn’t read it well enough but I thought this would be multiple common conversations in French. It is in fact one long story broken down into conversations.
I love the Olly Richards book, short stories for beginners. I just thought there would be examples of everyday conversations, which would be more helpful than one story.

Swiss Girl: Ich habe das Buch in den Ferien in Frankreich gelesen. Mein Level ist schon ziemlich gut, aber ich habe die Sprache schon lange nicht mehr angewandt. Die Geschichte war unterhaltsam, die Wörter und Sätze einfach zu verstehen und somit motivierend und trotzdem gab es ganz viele Sätze, die ich gelernt habe und nun anwenden kann. Sehr empfehlenswert! Ich habe mir nun noch das Buch für Fortgeschrittene bestellt.

MissValerie: I always like to get new materials to develop the interest and curiosity of my adult students for the online classes I teach with the Long Beach Lingual Institute. I just started my B2 level adult students… beginner plus with this book and they love it. It helps tremendously developing their communication and comprehension skills. As adults, you need to learn words with a context as it’s the way you will remember it the best. List of words are old school and useless if you don’t know how to use it in a context.
This book keeps a very polite tone and is not too colloquial.
Atissa is a laywer and mom. She loves this book. She is going to visit Paris. We use it once a week.
Kieron a retired CEO loves it too. We use it twice a week to prepare him for his retirement half in France and half in USA.
Lynn and Alan get a lot out of it also.

stevebaker: I have read, or at least tried to read, a few beginners french stories before but quite frankly they were either very childish or very predictable. This book would have been fun to read in English, I set myself a target of reading one "chapitre" a day, but often read more because I wanted to know what was going to happen next! Full marks to Olly for developing this system, I wish there were more coming.

I have placed an almost identical review of this book in the reviews of another book (101 Conversations in Simple German) in this series which is a different work by the author. Both reviews express my opinion of this approach to learning conversational skills in a foreign language.

This product is for people beginning to actually read, listen to and speak French not for those who are just starting French. I bought all the books in this series. The French and German books work for me. The Spanish and Italian books don't. That is because all the books assume a modest amount of comfort with reading the target language and and having acquired some vocabulary. There are no translation exercises or grammar points included. A few words of vocabulary are attached at the end of each short conversation. But the intention is that readers absorb vocabulary by simple exposure to it.

Those students just starting the French language with little or no foundation to build on would be well advised to look at his french Uncovered offering instead before moving on to this book. I will be purchasing the Uncovered series courses in Spanish and...

Wubba Lubba Dub Dub: If you're looking to be a French master in 3 months, this book is not for you.

This book is for those who have wanted, for so long, to sit down and to have a legitimate conversation with someone in French.

If you don't know Olly, you have to check his other works out, because this book is just ONE of the DOZENS of products he has to help people learn a language. He prioritizes the use of "story" to ingratiate vocabulary and knowledge at the same time. And the scientific literature shows that this method is actually the best method to avoid getting bored with learning as well as to make huge leaps and bounds. I have French Conversations, his French Short Stories, and soon, I hope to have his French Uncovered course as well as Grammar Hero for French.

Why this book tho?

Because more often than not, people have no idea where to start when trying to learn a language. I've tried to learn straight vocabulary from the start, and it's helped, but I've always felt lost when trying to engage in an open conversation. I could never stick to things like Duolingo because I never felt compelled to return to them.
