trixie: I love the Cookie + Kate blog and figured I’d purchase the cookbook to support her. Turns out that was the best decision ever because the recipes are SO GOOD and not the same ones as the ones online so it’s such a nice addition to the recipes I already love from her! I’m not a vegetarian but find her recipes don’t feel like they’re missing anything without meat and/or if my husband wants meat with the meal, they’re easily tweaked to add some into the dishes. Anyway I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to write one as I’m so excited by this purchase!

Kelly Rieder: My husband and I both love eating our meats, but we wanted to add more vegetables into our meals. Honestly some of these are so delicious they really don’t need the meat at all! We’ve cooked thru quite a few already & can’t wait to try more. My only judgement is that there is a lot of use of coconut milk or water which is a dietary restriction for me, but there’s plenty of alternatives I can use that still make these recipes work! :) delicious, the best vegetable cook book we’ve bought so far!

Jan: Lovely recipes, all vegetarian. Love it.
I particularly like the fact that Cookie the dog, who has now sadly passed away, features in so many photos.
Being a dog/animal lover/vegetarian myself, I think it’s a great book.
Also enjoy exercising my brain by having to convert all the ingredients from American imperial to metric! Good for mental maths and memory!

Jane Austen: love the recipes and the combinations of ingredients and bought one for me and one for a relative HOWEVER, everything I've made so far has too much oil and in some instances the recommended baking temp is too high when honey or maple syrup is included. i've made notes on the recipes to reduce the oil by as much as 1/4 and and sometimes the salt and then made the recipes again to be sure. A few examples - 1/2 of the my favorite granola recipe toasts fits better in an 11x17 silicone rimmed pan than the full recipe with parchment paper. I reduced the oil to 1 T and the honey to a scant T and it was better. The applesauce doesn't need a sweetener or lemon juice, but the mashed avocado for the everything avocado toast does need lemon juice. The spinach-artichoke quiche was delicious but the crust was far to oily and it was too thin to come up the sides to look like the photo - but a thin crust was really good - thicker would would have been too heavy for the delicious filling. Sometimes the recommened salt is unnecessary or too much. Raquel: Me ha gustado muchísimo este libro de recetas veganas y vegetarianas. Está publicado en inglés, pero si conoces el inglés básico/medio lo entenderás. Los ingredientes son fáciles de encontrar, no es muy deluxe en ese sentido. Se repite con muchos ingredientes, como el aceite de oliva virgen extra, los garbanzos, los boniatos, etc., pero con muy buenas mezclas, diferentes y todo muy exquisito. Ya he probado algunas y me han gustado. Viene muy completo, incluso tiene recetas de bebidas alcohólicas. Da buenos consejos y lo explica todo detalladamente. Se ha organizado súper bien con las fotografías. Ocupa todas las hojas por completo, sin dejar detalles. Me ha impresionado.

Lulu: Sólo lo compré para comer más saludable. Recetas deliciosas, de dificultades que van de principiante a media. En mi caso, soy maaaala en la cocina y he logrado preparar cosas ricas. Los ingredientes son fáciles (o no muy dificiles) de conseguir en México :) lo recomiendo a cualquiera que quiera hacer más ensaladas o comida saludable.
Tengo la versión electrónica y se lee muy bien en kindle o en las aplicaciones para computadora y celular.

Garysgal888Garysgal888: I happened upon this blog through some other sites I visit often and I saw she was releasing a cookbook. Looked good so I pre-ordered. I didn't stay long on the site but just waited for the book to arrive. Well it did and I've recently vowed to not write a review until I've tried recipes out of the books I'm purchasing. To many times, folks write reviews never sharing the actual recipes and success/failures of actually cooking through a recipe. I'm trying to change that.
First, I was blown away by the overall layout and awesome pictures for almost every recipe. Pictures are expensive, so kudos to Kathryne for producing a wonderful book full of what her recipes should look like. I try recipes most often based on pictures so I like lots of pictures. Some other stand outs: Nice intro on how she got interested in whole foods and their importance. And a great explanation of how to use the cookbook. Also, most recipes have a section at the bottom of each sharing how to make it gluten free, dairy free/vegan, egg/nut free and soy free so she's made her recipes very versatile to every kind of eater. SF Shopper: ALL the recipes I’ve tried are healthy and delicious, and I’ve made them so many times that the pages are smeared and splattered. Although I’m now always exploring more recipes on cookieandkate.com, I can’t wait for another cookbook. I just hope there are still photos of Cookie in it for old times’ sake… :)
