David Symonds: Within reason, this is a great little pump. By that I mean that this will work well for most small A/C systems.
If you have rear A/C, not so much. For my Trailblazer with rear A/C, it only achieved 21 lbs vacuum. That did not get the system cold enough to satisfy the Family. I had to use the Robinaire equip. to recharge the system. For my S-10,
it pulled 22 lbs, but it achieved 39 degree A/C. Chilly Willy! Hope this helps!

FORM: I'm using this to power a vacuum plate for circuit board milling.

I removed the inlet fitting and replaced it with a vacuum gauge and quick disconnect fitting. (You have to remove the handle to do this.) The pump housing is tapped 1/4-NPT.

It does spew a lot of oil from the exhaust if the inlet is open to atmosphere, but as soon as you let it draw a vacuum it settles down. I put a piece of silicone hose over the exhaust port and put the other end in a bucket, then draped an old towel over the top of the bucket. DIY filter. After 5 hours of continuous running, there was just a tiny film of oil on the bottom of the bucket and I could not tell that the oil level had moved in the sight glass. So consumption is actually pretty low.

I really like how quiet this pump is. With it ten feet away from where I'm working, I can hear it but it is not noticeable. Perfect for what I'm doing with it.

Michael Clements: 3/2021 UPDATE: 4 years on, still going strong. I’ve changed the oil several times, left it running overnight (whoops), and dragged it around multiple times. Still works like a charm!

As others have said, the included oil wasn't quite enough. I've used this a half dozen times, and it works well. Always pulls down to 29". A great bargain. Considering what A/C work will set you back in a shop, this (or any vacuum pump) pays for itself quickly.
Not sure why others feel this won't pull down a proper vacuum.....
EDIT 3/5/19: I've had this pump 2 years now. I've used it DOZENS of times; mostly doing a/c work on my and family member's cars. It has performed very well. Maybe I'm lucky....mine doesn't seem to have any of the issues others were having. My only advice: This is a low priced Chinese tool; thoroughly check it over before using. And do try it out before your return window is up.
