TheDudeAbidesTheDudeAbides: I assembled this canopy on my southern exposure, elevated deck about 1 year ago (bought at a slightly higher price), and I'm still happy with it. The panels are great - they block some light, and keep the area surprisingly comfortable on hot, sunny days. (It's actually the perfect spot for starting seedlings in late summer for fall planting.) A few things I might complain about: it's mostly aluminum construction, so not as sturdy as my old steel canopy frame, so be sure to secure the feet properly and check the diagonal lengths to ensure everything is perfectly square. Second, the screen/shade track and pulleys are not very convincing - and the little plastic pulleys often get stuck on the track. I don't expect the screen/shade cloth to last more than a few years - they're quite thin and the O-rings are starting to separate from the cloth. It would be wise to spray the cloth with 3M outdoor fabric protector (or similar). Probably also wise to spray the panels with 303 (usually used for boat seat vinyl). Finally, because the construction is mostly aluminum, one should probably not hang heavy objects from the roof (as I have - I'm hoping that one hanging basket's weight distributed...

Edwin Scott: I bought this to go over my hot tub. It works well for that. I wouldn’t recommend putting it together by yourself… it can be done, I did it, but there are a couple steps that were unnecessarily hard without another pair of hands or two. For workmanship, there was a bolt hole that was a couple inches out of place on the frame connecting to one of the the roof support pieces. In this case it’s surrounded by other pieces and locked into place so it’s not a problem just a bit of a hassle trying to figure what what I was doing wrong when the parts just didn’t line up. For shipping, it came in two big boxes, for me the boxes got shipped separately which was interesting, but they ended up arriving on the same day… one in the morning and the other late afternoon. It seemed we’ll pack but there were loose bolts in one of the boxes, I’m not sure how that happened and there were extra nuts/bolts, and what not. The top metal piece was dented. It didn’t affect the functionality and since it is at the very top it can’t be seen so I didn’t bother trying to have it replaced.

Overall I’m happy with it… it fits in the spot bought it for, it looks nice, and seems to...

Donna Z.Donna Z.: I needed shade on my deck and this gazebo had good reviews. We did follow the directions by laying out all the pieces, separating the screws by number and with the curtain hooks assembly as suggested by several others. It was slow going in places where you had to use the small Allen wrench included with the kit. To speed up the process my son cut a 4MM hex screw driver just below top as shown in the photo. Then we used the long metal piece as a drill bit for the more open parts and it worked fine. We also added clear caulk around the top panels as they were put on to prevent rain water from entering. I was curious about the top, it does block most of the light and my house isn't as dark where this top goes over some of the house windows. We just put it up today so I can't say how it will work in the next huge rain storm or heavy wind. It took just over 3 hours to complete the gazebo with the help of 2 house construction workers included in our group of 4. All parts were included plus extra screws and curtain hooks. A few pieces had been slightly bent during delivery but we used a screw driver to separate the curtain hook tracks and they worked fine. A few of the screw holes...

E. F. Pesik Jr.: This shelter was purchased for use in the Seattle area - lots of rain and some pretty windy conditions at times. I have above average construction/mechanical skills and plenty of tools, but I had some difficulty with aspects of the setup process. I found the instructions to be inadequate in a couple of areas (especially the "curtain hook" installation) and even contain at least one error in part identification. The diagrams are insufficient to let you know with precision what you should be doing - but if you have even a rudimentary idea of what the finished product is going to do, you can figure it out. Take your time - have at least two people to help you with certain portions (attaching poles to cross pieces and raising the roof) - and make sure you've got a couple of 6ft ladders. You should have a set of hex head bits to use with your power driver - otherwise you'll wear yourself out using the supplied hex keys! You may also need a grinder bit on the end of a Dremel-type tool or at least a round file to get some of the cross pieces connected - the machining isn't perfect from the factory. Also, be prepared to use some muscle on the lateral and vertical corner braces - I found a...
