Bocaboy: I am really delighted with my new Yamaha Home Theatre system. I'd been looking at it on Amazon for a while, and when it went on sale at Amazon for one day, I grabbed it. I had a 10-year old Yamaha Home Theatre unit that didn't support Airplay, Pandora and HDMI, and I chose to replace it with the V677. It should be noted that I wanted to stay with Yamaha as I never had a day of trouble with my old unit.

I don't think any review of this product would be relevant without knowing the environment it will be controlling. My setup is pretty simple. I have a Samsung 50" HDTV, a Panasonic BluRay player and Apple TV 4th generation. My cable provider is Uverse. My speakers are 2 Altec 604-8g's, which I've had for a very long time and love. In addition, I have a set of Sennheiser wireless headsets that my wife uses to enhance the audio of TV programs.

I had a couple goals, all of which have been satisfied with the V677. First, I wanted to use HDMI for all of my hardware, thereby turning the V677 into the center of my home theatre system, kind of like an HDMI hub. This was very easy to set up. One HDMI cable runs from the sole HDMI out port to the TV. The BluRay...

Randy: I was and am very happy with this receiver. (Will have to add to this review 6mths to 1yr out which is when durability can be noted.) I came from using a Pioneer Elite VSM 91TXH receiver with 110 watts per channel. I was worried that the lower wattage would change my volume for movies and such. (Not the case.) This receiver arrived very well package as most do. It was easy to setup and seems solid - heavy. The setup was easy and had no issues. As my tv is a newer TV, my BluRay and Cable box are connected to it via HDMI. I like it this way as I can use the ARC HDMI feature of the receiver to link my receiver - tv using a single HDMI cable to ARC HDMI port on receiver. I prefer this over all other ways of connecting as this gives me a NON COMPRESSED full sound input from tv to receiver. Using an optical cable for your audio limits the full sound as it is compressed, (Note - The receiver must have ARC enabled before this will work. Came "off".) I have also used high end Onkyo Receivers in the past but the quality of them went downhill and fast as they started using crappy capacitors. (Mine died when the HDMI controller failed.) There was a ton of issues with the...
