KC: After ordering, I found a vintage permanent match from about thirty years ago. It made an interesting comparison. The vintage is smaller, and lacks an o-ring at the top. But it also has a type of lining to hold fluid from the top to the bottom. The newer version is only partially filled, with the result that it forms a pool of lighter fluid in the bottom. This can result in spills if tilted too far. I much prefer the top to bottom filling found in the vintage, and am somewhat uncomfortable using the new version.

I found no difference in striking the vintage or this version. Both versions light equally well. There is a sort of knack to lighting a permanent match, but it it says much that there's no difference between the old and the new.

Gerald Anderson: These actually work very well unlike others I've tried. Even if they run dry you can still start a fire with the striker and ferro rod. 1 of 5 failed and started leaking fluid, very disappointing.
