Clarriet Gray: Actually, this was used to deter pests (mosquitos, insects, etc.) and snakes. I placed garlic in some units which deter snakes from coming around the corner of the house. In other containers it was a sponge soaked in ammonia, but you must align with foil soil the ammonia doesn't leak out at the bottom.. It does require constant upkeep based upon weather, but I have seen much improvements around the home.

Hawkeye: If you don’t have a smoker but have a barbecue then you can use this for smoking meats or chicken or fish. Just put your favourite wood chips in start it burning and close the lid and check every so often to replace wood chips.

TheVermontStooge: This works well but you have to experiment to find the correct temperature to get it smoking. Too much heat and the chips will catch on fire. Too little heat and they won't smoke at all. It also takes a good amount of time to get the chips smoking without them catching on fire so you have to keep an eye on the grill. Once it's smoking correctly, it does impart a good flavor to whatever you're cooking.

Ufdah: Just received it. Seems sturdy and easy to use, much better than my old one (brand name, with an unattached lid, and the edges/rims on both the box and lid were sharp enough to cut me if I wasn’t paying close attention ) which I bought at a well-known hunting/fishing store. I can’t wait to give this a try - I foresee a lot more smoking of grilled foods on my gas grill this summer!

E. Powell: I'm just getting into using wood chips with my gas grill and this smoke box seemed to be a nice upgrade from the heavy duty aluminum foil I had been using. I am still experimenting with heat and positioning to understand how to achieve the best results but I am pleased so far. The smoke flavor I'm getting is not nearly as strong as achievable on a true smoker but it's not bad. The box is closed on the bottom with holes on the sides and top so it can be used with either wet or dry chips. I find I get more smoke more quickly with dry chips but it doesn't last as long. What is interesting is either way, the wood chips are not completely consumed to ash but instead turn to something resembling charcoal. At any rate, I figure the box will eventually pay for itself by not having to buy as much aluminum foil.

Some Person: I used this to smoke a pork loin. Yes, it takes a while to get the flavor, but man was it good. The box is easy to deal with. Just know that it can get pretty hot. It holds enough to not have to change it out too often, but be sure to soak the chips at least 30 min before you use them and plan to change them out every 40 min to an hr. I guess that depends on how hot your grill gets. Place this on the burning side of your grill and simply let the meat soak in the flavor indirectly for an hour or two if it's not a very thick piece of meat. The loin took 3 hrs, but I baked it in the oven at a low temp for about 40 min first, then took about 2 and a half hours or so on the grill. Considering the size of the meat, I should not have put it with low heat underneath in the grill. Indirect is best. It will cook over time anyway and when you're ready to get a decent char on the meat, that can come at the end on direct heat.
