Rejn Randeb:
This was my first Hawk purchase, specifically for throwing.
You will see a couple complaints that are misfounded:
1. Head keeps falling down the handle.
A. This is called a drop head axe and is designed to behave this way,(this is designed for throwing) all you have to do is tap the head back down to the end of the handle or or "sling" the head back to the end, where the wedge shape of the handle holds it in place.
2. the blade not being very sharp
A. Throwing axes should not have a sharp blade, sharp narrow blades dull quicker and chip easier causing bigger issues when throwing.
You are getting a throwing Axe with this guy, it is what it is designed for and it does it well, I won my very first league placing first with it. The throwing style can be a bit different to heavier axes, but it works well!

Sarah Reynolds: The ax is beautifully done, I got it for my husband for throwing. He did however have to secure the ax to the handle because it was loose.

Jason:
Really, this particular axe depends on what you want from it. If you're looking for a functional work axe or a throwing hawk, then this is not the right one for you. It's craftsmanship is pretty good, but the weight distribution is off and blade heavy. That being said, it's not what I bought it for.
If you want a Viking Axe with a bare handle, and you want to wood burn/stain/leather coil wrap the handle as a decorative or faire piece, then this thing is awesome. It has heft and a quality feel to it that seems beyond it's price tag.

Florian Tolk:
This is a very easy to use axe, that I have thrown enough times to already go through 1 target. The hand has yet to break (but has come off a few times, as they said it would). I did have to run my whetstone over it a few times though, as it was dull, even by throwing axe standards.
Shortly after receiving this item I was also sent an email from the vendor, asking if I had any issues with my axe, and providing me with some usesage and care information.
Can't say anything negatiove about this transaction.

Jonathan S.:
For the money this is a great throwing tomahawk. Good balance and great length handle. It may not be the most beautiful hawk on the market. However if you are going to throw a hawk a lot, and let inexperienced throwers use it, it is going to get beat up. The handle is going to get chipped and broken. So you don't need a good looking hawk for throwing. If you want a really nice looking hawk, get one of the beauties from Condor Tool and Knife.
The blade comes pretty dull, but that can be desirable for throwing. A thin sharp edge is more likely to chip and bend when you miss the target. In about 10 minutes I was able to put a decent edge on it with my bench stone.
The replacement handles available from the same vendor fit very nicely.
