CA: Disappointed with item. The temperature control is to heavy for actual tool. Making it difficult to move tool easily through poly burlap fabric. Would have been better if control was placed in other section of cord or made with control on tool itself. Branden: I used my new wood burning tool for one task so far. I tried out the cutting blade to cut plastic, specifically Sterilite totes, as I build insulated cat shelters. The heated blade made it so much easier and more efficient. With so many attachments, there are so many projects you could accomplish. Highly recommend!

Sangel4Sangel4: I use this wood burner to cut my burlap mesh in order to create beautiful wreaths. Creates nice clean cut and seals the burlap for less fray. Excellent wood burner with different heat setting and more. No regrets

Catharine MeffordCatharine Mefford: I drew these grape leaves on a really bad viola that I had stripped as much of the thick, plastic like varnish from years ago. This viola always sounded like a muted ugly brick. One day I looked at the vineyard I had started a couple of years prior and thought how beautiful they would look on it. I picked a few leaves and traced them on the instrument. I tried to carve them, but maple is very dense. I’d thought about burning the impression on it and finally I have tried. I wish I had had some sample wood to play with first, but that’s OK.

I love the smell of wood when I’ve worked with it in carving and other wood crafts. This is no different. I’m thrilled.

Devon: I got help from someone that is very into wood burning before buying this because the reviews for these are SO confusing - I read so many before buying this. The person recommended this one as a good one to start with and I would suggest the same to others since it's not too expensive. I really debated this purchase, so am including a long review for others like me that read everything and worry about what to purchase. This works well. I've had it for a month or so, used it about 4 - 5 times. The instructions clearly state that you need to LET IT COOL before you change tips and this is very true. I got impatient one day and tried to change while hot (with pliers - always change with pliers to avoid burns!) and one got stuck - lesson learned. I had to take the pen down to a clamp I have attached to a work bench in my garage to get the power to unscrew it - even after it was cooled- it was really stuck. So if you do start out using this - WAIT until the piece is cool before attempting to change the points - I will not make that mistake again. READ the instructions that come with the tool - they are really clear and helpful. Those that reviewed to say it was ruined by a stuck point...

The WestleysThe Westleys: This is a great, reasonably priced woodburning tool for beginners. I bought it specifically because it's been suggested to me from various beginner pyrography websites. Initially, I had almost given it a very low rating, because there can definitely be problems, but I ended up changing my opinion on that. Here's why.

After using this about four times, the threads became malformed and I could no longer screw in tips correctly, I was pretty upset and contacted the company, expecting them to do nothing. However, right away they sent me a rethreading tool and gave me some great advice, which I'm going to share with you here. If you end up having this problem I definitely recommend contacting Walnut Hollow. Here are some suggestions to avoid needing to rethread:

- Only change tips when cool and only to 'finger-tightness' in other words, if you use pliers, please do not tighten too much.
- Most importantly, you can use powdered graphite lubricant to stop things from sticking and prevent problems in the future!

My other complaint about this would be that the included stand is not really anything of the sort, it needs to be taped down to be used, it does not...
