Vitamix 5200 Blender: Professional-Grade Power for Smooth Blending

Debamundo: We make smoothies 2-3 times a week and have burned though several blenders. I decided to take the plunge and see if this one would last longer. The blending power is impressive. It is loud, very loud, but so powerful you don't have to run it for very long at a time. I'm happy with my purchase.

J S: There's a reason this Vitamix gets such high ratings across the board at major sites. I was on the hunt and hit the RTINGS site to run product comparisons looking for something that would make smoothies daily, without doing further hearing damage to every human and animal in the house. Blendtec's products are effective but LOUD!

This Vitamix 5200 replaced the Blendtec ES3 unit we had prior. 70% of its use was making smoothies and crushing ice, the rest was meal related, soups, hummus, butters, purees. What I'll say is this:

The 5200 will knock out a smoothie at least 2x faster, if not 3x, and smoother consistency than Blendtec's product. It does this at what sounds like, to me, half the volume; I truly believe I probably have hearing damage from being in proximity to my Blendtec ES3 in the mornings after years of my better half making smoothies. With the 5200, it doesn't matter if it's hot or cold, and it'll get whatever you're putting in there as creamy as you can imagine with minimal effort. Lisa: A Vitamix blender has always been on my wishlist. So when I was able to finally get one I'm so happy it did! It is so beyond a regular blender it's crazy. I used to make smoothies almost every morning and for me chewing your smoothie was just normal, lol. Not anymore! It make great, drinkable smoothies and it's actually quieter than my previous blender! I still haven't used it to it's full abilities but I definitely plan to. I've used it to chop some veggies, and also made some milk as well and it works great. In fact I was able to get rid of my old blender, food processor, ice cream maker, and milk maker! Made a lot of room in my appliance shelf! Can't wait to make butter and peanut butter and whatever else I can think of!

Gaurav Bhatt: Exactly as advertised. The best blender for smoothies. Period. We have 2 young kids and we make smoothies everyday. We used a blender from a different brand for years (and through it was pretty good) but after switching to Vitamix, it was life changing!

Frank Gerryts: I had a Blendtec before and it was great too but finally gave out after 10 years. Vitamix was always the other leader in the power blender league. This model is simple. There are no programs, just on/off and the turn up the speed dial and turbo. The programs on the Blendtec we’re rarely used so I’m not missing them.

The Vitamix is also quieter, though that may be because the Blendtec was misbehaving in it’s final months!

If you want a good, reliable workhorse for your blender I believe the Vitamix is it.

Amazon Customer: It's a good blender... but it's just a blender.

The controls are nice. One on/off switch and a dial for speed. There's also a switch for high speed... but that's not so useful. When you change speeds or turn it on the speed ramps up/down to avoid splashing or pulling in a bunch of air.

I don't imagine making peanut butter is a good use of time (sounds messy), and making soup heated by the friction of the blades sounds terrible because you have to run it for minutes. (It's incredibly loud on the highest speed: measured 90db! My son literally put on industrial ear muffs).

If you like slushes, smoothies, or milkshakes, it can do those very well. Very smooth. smaller ice crystals than a slushy machine.

The rod for pushing stuff into the blades is useful. It's nice to have a thing that is exactly the right length... saves you from the extra fiber added by a ground up wooden spoon.

Kathy: Wanting to upgrade my smoothie processing, got the 5200, white, on sale at a good price (for it, but really it's a bit pricey). It happened; now it's easier for me every day compared to my old, smaller machine which was perfectly fine but not quite as good.

Out of the box my Plug would not lock in the lid. Didn't fit together right. Examining the parts, I ascertained that the Vitamix instructions, lock clockwise, unlock counter-clockwise (cc) made no sense. So I wrote to Vitamix as follows:

"….Your Owner's Manual instructs me (and everybody else) to secure the plug by turning it clockwise (Page 7, para 2) and, to remove it by rotating counterclockwise from "locked" to "unlocked". But my inspection of the two pieces informs me that the design doesn't care which direction is used to secure/ lock it, and equally doen't care which direction is used to unlock it for removal. Unfortunately I cannot test my analysis because my pieces don't fit, and don't lock.

The Plug has two studs, each a semi-cylinder.

The Lid has four pairs of studs, equally spaced around the inside of the opening for the Plug. The two studs constituting a pair are spaces approximately...
