VIAIR 88P Portable Compressor Kit with Alligator Clamps - 00088

Sean: I bought this before a trip where I knew I’d be taking my Subaru on some rough forest roads.

Sure enough, we got a large puncture in the tread. It was leaking fast, like 1psi/ second. We put a plug in the tire and then I was able to refill the entire tire incredibly quickly using this compressor. Didn’t time it but it felt like less than five minutes between plugging the flat and filling to 30 psi. Totally painless.

This is so much better than cheapo compressors I’ve used. I thought it might be overkill for a Subaru, and maybe it is, but man am I happy I splurged a bit on this one when it came time to use it. The construction, hoses, nozzle are all really solid and nice.

Only critique is the pressure gauge - it says it will show the correct pressure when turned off but there can be a long delay for it to jump down when turning off. I didn’t really fully trust the gauge on the pump but think I’ll figure it out with time. Thankfully I can see the pressure by tire on my forester’s digital gauge cluster.

I thought hooking up to the battery would be a pain but it really wasn’t. You do need to turn off the car, hook it up, turn the car back on,...

Chris hoch: I bought this for my truck because my other air compressor took about 10 mins to bring one of my trucks tires from roughly 15 psi back to 40psi after off roading. This compressor did the job in about 2 mins. That's a huge difference that'll save me about 30 mins while airing back up.

J. Wright: I bought this after borrowing a buddy's during an offroad trip. I have 33" tires on my truck and had been concerned the some of the smaller compressor options wouldn't have the guts to deal with airing those back up, but this thing works like a champ. Takes a 33 from ~15psi to 30-something in a minute or two. Let one fill up, get the pressure where you want, move on to the next. COULD it be fancier, with automatic shutoff at a certain PSI or whatever? Sure. But it's small, simple, cheap, and works great. If you need a light-duty portable tire filler, this is the one. If you tried to hook it to a multi-hose setup it probably wouldn't work as great... but why would you do that when it works perfectly as it's meant to? Keep it simple.

Ed the Purchaser: Its fast and reliable. from 15psi to 45psi it took about 1 minute 48 seconds. it must be connected to battery to work but the cord is long enough. I have even used it in the rain and no problems. ONLY THING that I don't like is the PSI Guage is off 5 psi (if it says 50psi, its actually 45psi). But outside of that, its the best compressor I have used. Small and efficient and quick.

J. Hess: I bought this compressor top my 35 inch tires from 18 psi to 40 psi when coming off the beach. (Sometimes the air system for the public is not functioning). It handles this project with ease.
Recently was able to fill a zero turn mower tire from 0 psi to 30 psi. Tire was even off the bead.
Heavy, well made product that I can rely on for years to come. Nice carry bag fits behind the Toyota Tacoma rear seats easily.

Kindle Customer: I first bought a Viair compressor in 2002 or 3 (I think) Since then I used it extensively off roading in the UK, Europe and 3 or 4 trips a year round the the Sahara and further south until 2014. Since my trips to the desert were curtailed due to the Libyan civil war and general associated security risks, I have used it every couple of weeks to top up my tyres until it finally died a couple of months ago.

I honestly couldn't estimate how many hundreds of hours of relentless pumping it did over the years. It worked flawlessly in the heat, sand, dust, mud, driving rain, snow and ice, and it survived living in the back of various 110 Defenders for nearly two decades.

Anyway it eventually died and I replaced it with a cheap standard domestic type one from by a known brand which was basically tat. I got 2 months use out of it tending to both my wife's car and mine (which has a slow puncture due to a slightly bent rim). It was slow, insanely loud and broke after maybe 10-15 uses.

I treated myself to a new Viair compressor as a replacement. It's more or less the same as the one I had before but a newer model. It's quieter, seems quicker and it's shiny! I expect it to...

Scott Bailey: I got this air compressor approximately a week and a half, two weeks ago. First thing I noticed was the weight of the package! It’s was obvious on picking up the package it was something substantial inside.
After opening I was correct about that, the majority of the pump and all the working parts were constructed with metal, unit feels solid and quality built. Compact design for easy storage in your vehicle or trailer with very generous length of hose and power cables for reaching tires.
Power cord comes with alligator clips to attach directly to vehicle battery, because of the amp draw cigarette plug in would not be a good option either blowing the fuse or melting electrical wires in car and possibly causing a fire. Cord has its own replaceable fuse for safety.
