Brian: These punches work fine, but they are not labeled in any way. When you get them out of the box, you have to read the stamp side (backwards) and make sure you have the correct letter/number. It doesn't affect the function, but makes it harder to use when they are stored punch-side down.

Jonathan H.: Works as advertised. Works phenomenally well on wood but I was also able to Punch my Vin Number into a steel trailer. You will have to use a Large Sledge Hammer and you may have to tap it several times with lots of force on 1/4 inch angle but the Die never lost its edge on steel over the course of a day punching Vin numbers onto trailers.

Kyle Burross: Used on heavy metal with a hand sledge, could not read very well. Works great on softer metals, wood and leather.

LukeLuke: This is exactly what I was looking for. Easily legible and comes in a nice hard plastic storage case. All of it seems to be of nice quality but all of the punches and the entire box is completely covered in machine oil. Not that big of a deal to wipe off- just annoying that oil was all over the place and wasn’t expecting that. Like so much that it ran out of the box all over the cardboard box it was packaged in. (Not the amazon shipping box though). Would be five stars otherwise. Absolutely the best bang for the buck if you’re looking for a punch letter set.

ccc: I bought these for woodworking. And honestly, they would work GREAT if not for one fatal flaw. Many of the letters/numbers are not straight. In my set the D M U 4 and 9/6 were all set at an angle. This means that when you square up the punch and hit it with your hammer, the letter/number will be printed rotated. At first I thought it was just lousy technique until I realized after printing the same thing on a number of wood pieces that it was ALWAYS the same letters that were off. So I looked carefully and low and behold, the punch has the letter rotated. I also had one slightly defective letter "I" which had a bump in the center. If it was just the bad "I" I could still give it 5 stars because the price was good. But with so many (5!!!) letters and numbers rotated a good 10 degrees or so, that's pretty horrible quality control. That's one sixth of the entire set I consider defective.

I'll keep them because I've already gone through and taped many of them up to make them easier to identify for common things I print and don't really want to go through the hassle for what isn't a ton of money. The "I" isn't that big of a deal and hopefully with lots of practice I can learn to...
