Del: I read reviews and watched videos on several "Smart locks" before deciding on the August Home, Wi-Fi Smart Lock (4th Generation). It installed quickly. I picked the coupling that I thought fit best and went through the short Wi-Fi set-up procedure. I was VERY disappointed when it would not operate consistently.

So, I called the customer service number. I got a call back in about 30 minutes or less. A very patient and pleasant rep helped me troubleshoot the problem. It took about 15 minutes for me to change to the correct (I had picked the wrong one) coupling piece and viola!

My wife and I really are pleased with the August Home, Wi-Fi Smart Lock (4th Generation). It integrated seamlessly with Alexa and unlocks as we approach the door. It looks nice and blends well with existing door hardware and works smoothly. I highly recommend this Smart Lock. 5 stars all the way.

Allen Jones: Overall the internet likes this lock when reading reviews, so it’s the lock I chose. When it arrived I was impressed with the engineering, quality and ease of installation. Directions were clear, concise and everything I needed in was in the box or was part of my original deadbolt. The August app is rock solid, (Although its missing a few foundational items such as pausing AutoLock without disabling it altogether and auto lock/unlock on a schedule) but as with any app specific to a device, its inconvenient. Here is where it’s lacking, the tech uses location, Bluetooth and WiFi to perform all of it’s different tasks. Via the August app you can do most things using WiFi but if you want to use HomeKit out of Bluetooth range you need to have a HomeKit bridge or hub (Apple TV, iPad or Home Pod), this device will receive the Apple Home command from our phone via WiFi then relay the command over Bluetooth to the lock. I’m not sure if there is a technical/software reason for this convoluted communication chain or not, but as you can imagine with all of these wireless technologies and devices in the mix, HomeKit is not very reliable. Steve TrumanSteve Truman: If you had asked me yesterday I would have given this lock 2 stars. Been living with it sorta connecting and auto locking or unlocking one time and then not re-syncing the status in the app for almost a year. Tried perfecting the latch so it was smooth and didn’t catch AT ALL for a good while and that wasn’t the issue. We tried getting a better WiFi signal, disabling all the battery draining features/notifications, calibrating the lock, restarting the app etc. Sometimes it would work a couple times and then resume not syncing on the app. The WiFi connection was strong, the log would note the times we unlocked it manually. Still, I was hung up on the lock to app signal being the cause of our issues and got a august connect adaptor to try and help (plus I read that could help slow the battery drain). Turns out even the 4th gen lock doesn’t allow an external connect device so that was a dead end. Maybe the connect I got is an older model or something but I couldn’t get them to link, it just complained there were no compatible devices at setup). Another clue that this wasn’t the cause should have been that even when using the phone’s Bluetooth signal it...

Juan Fájer Cruz: Me gustó todo. Llevo 2.5 meses con él y funciona muy bien. Fácil de instalar y configurar. Me gusta mucho la función de que se abre cuando llego a casa sin hacer nada. Muy ingeniosos. También de que se cierre a los 2 min de que se abrió. Así nunca se queda abierta. También que puedes utilizar automatización como prender algo cuando se abre.
Parece que las baterías duran poco. Me empezó a avisar desde hace 14 días de la urgencia de cambiarlas. No he hecho caso y sigue funcionando perfecto. Ya le gané 14 días.
