Ashlei: I initially bought this as a decor item for my kitchen. I flipped through it and the recipes looked so simple & delicious so I decided to give it a try. I made the Ragu Bolognese and it’s out of this world. We now make it every Sunday and eat the leftovers throughout the week. We’ve made the veggie stock & broccoli pasta as well. Both are fantastic. I love the history she includes throughout the book too.
10/10 would recommend!

Feistyfluxy: Mimi Thorisson, a cosmopolitan and fabulous food writer has moved her family from France to Italy to pursue la dolce vita. The recipes, the ambiance and the cosy cottagecore is here as expected. The recipes are approachable and seasonal, which without a doubt will bring a region of Italy to your kitchen. There are plenty of recipes that will help you entertain a crowd, for food and drink., And they are approachable, albeit you may have to get friendly with your online greengrocer for courgette blossoms when in season.
What stood out was the oddly defensive tone on the threat of Italian way of life; she particularly used the smaller family own trattorias as examples. Mimi describes how it is easy to eat well in Italy in comparison to the rest of the world, and she hypothesises it's due to "Famiglia" - family, and quickly in comparison explains these restaurants often are passed down in generations, whilst in France the inheritor will likely have the family sell the bistro to pursue the American dream by moving to the capital. Inevitably a business man would purchase the joint and ruin it by selling kebabs and pizza. She blames this on "globalisation" stating it homogenises...

P. Neal: Great book with lovely photos but I didn’t know what I ordered was printed in USA so all recipes are in strange measurements. Shame about that but not the end of the world.

Amazon Customer: Without a doubt, this is a lovely book. Beautiful photos and charming narrative about the author's travels throughout Italy. If you want to learn a bit more about the various regions in Italy and how the cuisine differs from one to the other, then you'll enjoy this book. However, if you are a serious cookbook collector and/or home cook, this book will disappoint you a little. There are some very good recipes in this book but there are just too few of them. There are only a handful of seafood recipes and considering Italy is surrounded on 3 sides by water, that's hard to understand. Lovely book - light on the content I hoped for.

Sheherazade: I really like the book. As others have said already, it is not a mere cooking book, but has recipe's in it. Not complicated ones, but basic Italian ones, but it is probably more a book about the families move to Italy and their life there, which I knew and it is therefore fine. The photo's are beautiful too.
It is a cooking book that qualifies as a coffee table book, which is not very often the case. However, if someone wants a proper cooking book, then this won't be the perfect choice

Curious EpicureCurious Epicure: This new cookbook by Mimi Thorisson is simply wonderful. The exceptionally beautiful photographs, shot by the author's husband, Oddur Thorisson, are a perfect visual counterpoint to the lovely collection of recipes. This is one of those cookbooks that is as much a pleasure to read as it is to cook from. (scroll down to see the recipes I've so far tried)
I have shelves full of Italian cookbooks, many of which also highlight the regions of Italy and recipes from those areas. But Ms. Thorisson's book, in particular, makes me feel as though I am holding a piece of Italy in my hands every time I open it. Readers who feel that Italy exerts a unique and inexplicable pull on them will especially appreciate Ms. Thorisson's lack of pretense when she describes how repeated trips with her family concluded in the decision to move there.
The diverse and fiercely traditional regions of Italy can make it a difficult country to figure out. One of the best ways to do that is in the kitchens - whether with home cooks or restaurant chefs - and anyone who reads this book will be the beneficiary of the Thorissons deep curiosity and quest to discover the soul of each region through its...
