P. C. Kidd: Wonderful cook book! While some of the recipes take a lot of time, the ingredients are, for the most part, simple. The instructions are, too! I'm not a great fan of fussy French cooking, so this is on track to become one of my favourite cookbooks. It's down-to-earth in its approach, and the recipes I've made (and tasted) are absolutely amazing. They're so good, I'm thinking of cooking them for myself alone!

Alex:
One of the best cooking books I own! Every single thing I tried came out really well. The recipes are clear and concise and the anecdotes that accompany them are delightful. There were a lot of helpful suggestions and variations of the recipes.
another bonus is that the dishes are not soaked in butter and can be a part of a healthy diet. The ingredients for recipes are usually something that most cooks have in their pantry/fridge and/or easily accessible in North American stores.
Will be buying this book as a gift for my cooking friends.

Karen M: This cookbook is clearly one of my favorites! The recipes are authentic, easy to replicate, and I am making great meals! What more is there? As an American francophile living in France, this is an obvious choice for me. I follow Dorie on-line and have learned so many techniques, as well as, recipes. In this book, her "bonnes idée" comments after many of the entries are wonderful options, also. I have my favorites, like the Bistro Paul Bert Pepper Steak, and others. There are also short articles offering cultural tidbits, too. I enjoyed my Kindle version so much, that I had to have the book... if for nothing else, the amazing photography! Thank you, Dorie Greenspan! Hint: The Baking cookbook by Dorie is also packed with great recipes.

CANTHESPAM:
Today my husband asked me to make mushroom soup. Since I haven't made it before, I told him I'd look through my books to find a good recipe. Then the doorbell rang, it was the postman delivering this gorgeous book. As I opened it and began to thumb through it, the first recipe that I came upon was ... mushroom soup. OK that was a good omen and I started to read the recipe. Then the second omen ... Mrs. Greenspam said that it was from one of her favorite bistros in Paris .. Les Papilles, which happens to be one of our all time favorite Paris bistros.
A few weeks ago, I got her recipe online, for the chicken that is on the front cover, and after making it, I knew that I would be ordering this book. The chicken was moist, flavorful and the sweet potatoes gave it a very special flavor. This was my first experience 'caulking' a pot to keep the steam in. I used store bought pizza dough and the chicken was a huge success and definitely a keeper.
As I read through most of the recipes, I found that some were familiar (other versions) and some were new with surprise ingredients. After years of cooking and eating French food or any other food for...

Leslie H.:
I've had this book just a couple of weeks now and I've tried only 3 or 4 recipes but I'm already in love as I've read through most of it now. I'm a devoted francophile and have LOTS of French-themed cookbooks. I've also spent quite a lot of time recreating wonderful meals my husband and I have had in Paris and elsewhere in the country. That said, I can say that this book is a wonderful mixture of very tradtitional French fare mixed with a few more modern takes on things that she's come up with on her own.
I've tried the Savory Cheese and Herb bread in the first section- if I had turned my back for a moment, my husband would have scarfed the entire thing and I wouldn't have gotten any. Big hit. Also, the Pumpkin Gorgonzola Flans were wonderful. I'm a (fish-eating) vegetarian and my husband isn't- he likes a good steak- and this flan is typically the type of thing that he might groan a little over and that's what I expected- NOPE! He loved them. I also tried the Flounder Almandine/Meunière- the first recipe in the seafood section and it was fab. I used Dover Sole and it worked just great. Big hit and I'm sure my husband will request it...

Ute Simon:
I love Dorie Greenspan's book "Baking from my home to yours" and have already tried many recipes. All gave perfect results. So I was looking forward to her new book "Around my french table". And when I first opened it, I saw that she starts with one of my favorite recipes: Gougeres. These small cheese balls are the perfect accompanyment to a good glass of wine. And so easy to make! If you were of the opinion, that French Cuisine is complicated, this book will show you that this prejudice is not true. The recipes in this book are easy to make and you will find the ingredients in most American and European markets and supermarkets.
Although my native language is German, I had no problems reading and understanding the recipes. And I like it, that the author mixes in some French words here and there.
