Martin Rose: ....I was not let down. This book comprises the life experiences of, mainly newly qualified nurses going to embark on a career in A&E, in the military and others. Very well brought together, not sure how much James Patterson had to do with this but it keeps him relevant. I loved this book, even though it is very Americanised. I recommend this book to you all.

justme: I’m still reading this. It reminds me of my last trip to the ER. Not a big deal but I learned that after the fact. Anyway it’s the before that’s important. Shortly after being tucked into bed, I got a roommate. Talk about a frequent flyer. EVERYTHING was I’m on my last legs. Spoke very loudly…so the entire ER could know she was back. DEMANDING the phone for over an hour! I quietly laid in bed and didn’t make a peep until I had to go potty. When I got back, she started cussing this new employee. I told her off but good. She actually apologized to the kid! When my nurse came to me a couple hours later I told her what I had done. She got very teary eyed and told me thank you…we aren’t allowed to call patients out even when they’re in the wrong. We hugged. She was so grateful that I had her back and everyone else’s and that once this patient started cussing the kid someone stood up for all them.

Candace Zickler: Im a registered nurse and have lots of experience working in pediatrics but have not worked in the ER. I found the short stories entertaining and the writing is very good. The nurses are caring for patients that I would expect to show up in an ER. The nurses are experienced so they do a good job of telling you about the patient but not some of the routine- time consuming tasks of working in an ER, and you don't get a good idea of what a nurse in the ER does. I think it points out the limits of working in an ER- you work hard when a person needs help, you don't see the patient get better, you try not to bond with the patient as it will "affect your own psyche", and you are more a technician than a caregiver.

Kindle Customer: One of the most heartfelt and inspiring reads I have had the pleasure to experience.
I work as a nurse and am damn proud of it.
Thankyou to the authors and all the nurses who contributed to this book.

Rod Palmer: This is truly a great read. I've been retired for ten years now, but my first job out of nursing school was at a Regional Trauma Center in SW Michigan. So many of the stories brought back memories of specific patients and crazy situations I hadn't thought of in a while. I've also been an EMT, an army medic and clinical specialist, and a Coast Guard corpsman. So the military section had a special meaning for me too. For me, most of the chapters produced either tears or laughter. The "above and beyond" things nurses do for their patients and families are some of the things I miss a lot. After finishing the book, I had an odd feeling for several days and thought it was due to remembering some of the tragedies I had witnessed. But it wasn't so much that, as it was the feeling of not being a part of something like that anymore. I've worked with some of the most dedicated, intelligent, irreverent, courageous, and talented people I've ever known. And I miss them every day. Nurses are yelled at, spit on, assaulted, overworked and exhausted - but will pick up extra shifts and still come in on time the next day. Those of you who are still working and counting the days till retirement, will...
