Smudge: I liked the fact that I knew all the places that were mentioned in the book. The plot was quite good with interesting characters.

Kindle Customer: Very well written, great characters with interesting interplay, colorful sense of place, lots of mystery and exciting plot. I was a bit let down by the ending which was a strange add on that seemed to come out of nowhere.

Blue and white: I like the location, Sheringham a place I was taken to during the summer holidays as a child, not that I remember much!
A body is found at the foot of some cliffs, and the most likely suspects are two brothers Janssen was at school with, but whom he has had practically no contact with in years. But there are more people involved and more to just the murder than originally thought. A new member has joined the team with a back story that isn't made clear until the end, but she fits in well. All in all a good plot, but for me personally, the author's Dark Yorkshire series just pips the post as my favourite.

Alan in Durham: A fourth is added to the team. So four relationships which might be 6, sometime.

The DCI is still carrying a torch for her DI that doesn't seem to be dimming but she makes a potentially calamitous attempt at changing her life away from him and her abandoned fiance. Not convincing revelation of adulterous intent on lovers part.

DI and DC pairing still reveals junior can be easily fooled while being proficient. New DS shows up DC immaturity while DI and DS linking isn't smooth and we don't find out why until very late.

The initial murder solution exists outside of all activity from body discovery until penultimate chapter. Very unsatisfactory. Too much is unexplained about gang activity, the other killings and what appears to be drug smuggling.

And DI is so central to the story again that his DCI seems to be subordinate until she is allowed to issue orders. Now that the DS who has arrived after previous stories mentioned a vacancy the investigation by DCI / DI pairing seems top heavy.

His bio says author published first book in 2018. Amazon shows 6 Dark Yorkshire + 13 Hidden Norfolk in around 5 years.

The stories have reasonable characters...

Tom McGee: “Tell No Lies” is the fourth novel I have read in this series by J. M. Dalgliesh’s. This 460-page British crime novel was a much faster pace novel than the last.

Like the last , The story stars Deputy Chief Inspector Tamara Greave, Detective Inspector Tom Janssen, and young Eric Collet a Criminal Investigative Division (CID) Officer in England to investigate and solve a mysterious murder case; however, a new Detective Sergeant (DS) Cassie Knight joins the team in this episode and she has served with Tamara before.

This tale begins with a former gang member, Devon Bailey’s body being discovered near the beach after evidently being thrown from a Clift near the beach after extensive damage being done to his face.

As the story develops the character Tom Janssen’s background is further brought to life, revealing his fathers death and introduces the Kemp brothers, who Tom went to school with and whose father looked after him, much to the dismay of his son’s.

Those brothers have disdain for Tom and his relationship with their now deceased father and turn out to be suspects in Devon’s murder.

The story expands while the team investigates...

A. Steven Toby: This was, like the other 3 books in the series set on the Yorkshire coast, a taut thriller but also the murder discovered on page 1 was the ultimate consequence of events that happened some 20 years before, giving the story more historic and psychological depth than I was expecting. The victim was barely cold when his apartment was torn apart, and it was in a gated high security building. Cassie and a new, young officer were sent to London to check out the company that owned the victim’s car and in the hotel, a bad guy assaults Cassie who is described as small. She fights back well enough to send her assailant running and her partner takes off after him, but he seems to be better at running than at fighting and gets away. Of course we are led to wonder what registration irregularities could possibly require a violent response. But eventually the case unravels to a satisfying conclusion, although it’s not black and white, the original trigger was more peccadillo than sin, yet the bad karma bounced back on the originator in time.
