Angela Trudel: I read this book when it first came out. I was excited about it, as Will Smith has always held a special spot in my heart. I don’t like all his movies, but find him to be an entertaining actor. The book was very interesting, but I can’t lie I walked away from it, liking Will Smith less. I think there’s a thing about being too honest or maybe we just like the idea that celebrities are perfect. I feel sad for him, but he seems to enjoy the toxicity in his life as long as he’s getting the attention he wants. I think he needs to spend some time alone in a place where no one recognizes him and no one cares who he is even if they do. He needs some humbling, alone time, and hopefully the thing with Chris Rock gives him the slap of reality he needs.

Phellep A. Snow: This book is a great read from cover to cover. Although it started a bit different than what I expected, each chapter added to the upcoming narrative.

This book gave me great insight of how this celebrity navigated their career and provided a generous glimpse into their ups and downs.

I have benefited from this reading with introspection in how we can lead ourselves to jeopardy and the lessons that can be learned and facilitate the growth opportunities that it offers.

Anyone that wants to see what life can be like at the highest levels or has desire for growth can benefit from reading this book.

It's The Writer in Me: I read the audiobook version of this book and absolutely loved it!! The production value was everything you’d expect from an A-List actor. The book went into his life and upbringing, of course, but there was valuable lessons that emerged that can be applied in everyday life. I allowed a friend of mine to listen to it with me and she said it just spoke to her so strongly that she purchased a copy for herself. This book was gifted to someone who also enjoyed. It really is worth the read.

Für mich ist Will Smith einer der Helden meiner Kindheit. Mit der Serie, der Prinz von Bel-Air (1990-1996) und Filmen wie Bad Boys (1995), Independence Day (1996) und Men in Black (1997), stürmte er nicht nur die Charts, sondern sich auch in die Herzen von Millionen und Abermillionen von Zuschauern.

The simplest way I can describe this book is inspiring. We all know Will Smith, whether it be through Fresh Prince, Men in Black or the plethora of work that he has done through the years. Will is a global force, well recognised and most people would say ‘a funny man’. Who is the man behind that mask? Reading this book makes you understand that it is just that…. A mask. But why? A man who seemingly has everything? Why pretend to be someone you’re not?

Reading this book answered every question & then some. Without giving (or trying to give) too much away, Will was a fearful child. There were tense moments at home which compounded his fearfulness. He was a child that liked to give, liked to make sure everyone was happy. There was a need to be approved, for people to like him. If they liked him, then he must be ok…..right? Even as a young child, he was grafting a persona, one that he hoped everyone would love. Love the persona he created…..love him. Right?

This memoir is transformative and triumphant, in that Will Smith felt life was perfect. Rapper, film star, family man, success, top of his game....
