It slipped apart while he was installing and piece of the black paint chipped off. He touched it up with black paint but I would prefer one long piece of metal
for the top rail. Next time I will make sure that is in the description. Don’t think we want to take it down and return. Too much trouble! The price reflects the two parts! Pay more for a long one piece top rail

Brian: The product includes rotating filler pieces that prevent the door from falling off the track. Unfortunately, even with those pieces, there's a large enough gap between the top of the door and the bottom of the track so it's possible to accidentally derail the door. Could be a safety hazard.

The lag screws included did not seem sufficient to carry the load of heavy doors. I used a solid core 36"x86" door with this, and I did not want to use the small lag screw that came with it. I ended up using 5" crews from Home Depot instead. I also question the quality of bolts that attaches the track to the studs. I followed the instruction manual carefully, drilling the right-sized pilot holes and all that. I broke 2 of the 5 bolts while hand tightening them (I didn't know I was that strong). Had to make another trip to Home Depot to get a screw extractor. Was a stressful installation overall.

a long: So, it was easy with help from a friend that was pretty handy with drill and building things. Could not have done with only one person. Other than that, 2 amateurs had it installed within 2 hours. To make room for wheelchair access, we just hung the existing 36" interior door. And did not remove the door jams and trim so we mounted this barn door hardware on a long piece of 1x4 and then hung that assembly right above the door frame. Because we didnt remove the door jams, and used the original hollow core door, the whole thing looks hinky and has about a 4" gap at bottom and the door is not flush to the wall, so theres about an1.5" gap between the door and the wall. These gaps are not the fault of the actual hardware tho, its how we installed it.
I wish we would have gotten the longer size. We got 6.5' for 36" door and it doesnt give quite enough rolling room on the bar at the top. But its very functional. There probably would be trouble if we had someone who would open the door roughly, the stopper is not real sturdy.
We have considered ordering another one, but would want to build a better barn door for it and dont have that kind of money or ambition right now.

Birfield85Birfield85: I'll start by saying I would buy this kit again in an instant. We love the way it looks and how it functions. Our friends who have seen it love it too. The T-top matches the style door we used a lot more than the "barn" looking brackets which was a great option and more subtle matching our style. The steel is heavy duty enough, good hardware, good finish, etc. The bearings and rollers are AWESOME, super smooth and quiet which was one of my main worries. Also, this allowed us to customize by buying a used door since our doorway wasn't a standard shape/size (arched top, 36" wide, 8' tall, etc).

We bought this kit for mid $50 range, the used door for $35, pulls for the door for $10, bottom roller for $13 and some paint for the door for $5 and have an awesome product. Any complete, with door kit from a store was going to run us over $600 (some quoted us up to $1200) for the 8' door and in my opinion, they weren't any higher quality. Don't hesitate buying this!

Now for the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Like I said, overall it was good but I had to tweak it some which I have laid out below. There were some modifications but the rest worked so well at such a good...

Alex: I am a residential remodeler and have been installing barn doors for years. I wanted a barn door for our master bedroom, but was not willing to pay as much for the track as my customers are willing to pay for theirs. This is a great alternative to a "custom" track for way less money!

The pre-drilled hole spacing makes it unlikely that you'd be able to mount it right to a wall without tearing out drywall and installing blocking behind it. I recommend mounting a head rail (nailed/screwed into studs) and then mount the track to that using the pre-drilled hole spacing.
