Twin-Size Sauder Shoal Creek Mates Bed - Perfect for Small Spaces!

Alec: This product arrived undamaged, and was not very difficult to assemble. The assembly, while not difficult, was very time consuming and I am not a huge fan of the use of glue. I think the only improvement would be to make it just slightly larger, some bedding will be difficult or impossible to tuck without lifting out the mattress due to the tight tolerances.

The Missus (sometimes Mr, too): I’ve bought two of this same bed before from another big retailer, and those were perfect “big kid beds” for a room with sloped ceilings, that don’t allow for bunk beds in a kids’ room. Boxes from Amazon’s competitor were impeccable condition and almost all parts accounted for. Sauder sent me 5 screws to secure the mattress platform in place that one of the boxes was missing within I think 2 business days. I assembled them over about 2.5-3 hours each for my two older kids, with “help” from my toddler boys. I could probably have assembled them a little faster without “helpers” and a cordless drill, but that can cause the particle board parts to crack, so proceed with caution. I’ve got twin sized 7” thick memory foam mattresses on them, and they’re comfortable enough for adults to take a nap on them.

For the quality you get for the price, you’re good. The beds come with a tube of glue for a firmer assembly, which helps stabilize the parts as the bed comes together. Jen: Having already had this exact bed for an older child, purchasing a second Shoal Creek bed for my young stepdaughter was a no-brainer.

This set comes surprisingly well packaged, and survived its journey across the country without a scratch or dent. It is packaged in a large, unwieldy box - you will definitely need a second person if you have to move the 150lb package throughout your house.

While the directions are very straight-forward (and even include a few cute anecdotes!), many of the individual pieces lack indentifying stickers or stamps. Despite this, assembly was still fairly quick - I assembled this by myself, using only hand tools (per the instructions), in under 2 hours.

I love the look of Sauder's Shoal Creek line - enough so that we have several pieces from the bedroom collection in our household. The furniture has held up well, despite daily abuse in a room shared by multiple young children. The white finish is surprisingly durable and easy to clean.

richard: This was a shocker for me. I have never paid such a low price for such good quality. Though it came with a chipped edge from shipping because let's face it, its 150 pounds. That is heavy for me, and I bench 300 lbs. So some UPS guy is going to have a hard time with this no matter what. Luckily the edge was on the inside bottom edge so it didn't cause any structural damage nor will it ever be seen. But the quality of this bed is extraordinary for the price. The drawers are beautiful, the structure is solid. Great bed. I highly suggest it, its perfect for our son's room. I use to work at Circuit City way back in the day, and as a warehouse worker, part of my job was to build entertainment centers and other floor model stuff. A few dresser type structures as well. Anyway, I have built a lot of these pop-up type structures and this was by far one of the best I have ever seen. The instructions were extremely clear and helpful and the layout was solid. So yeah, perfect but be wary of shipping as it WILL get damaged. As will any bed you order since they're heavy and not everyone can lift hundreds of pounds.
