Camilo: Muy entretenido, nada con naturalidad auténticos despropósitos de una de las culturas más racistas del mundo. El día a día de un chaval mulato en la Sudáfrica del s.XX. Imprescindible!

Theo: Very easy read. Trevor is an impressive writer. You get a good sense of what life was like in South Africa pre and post apartheid, before he became famous, for various segments of SA society. Cannot recommend enough. Some of his insights, wisdom, has really stuck with me.

david canford: This is an account of Trevor Noah's years of growing up in South Africa, an eye-opener for people like me fortunate enough to live a privileged life in the West. Born in the era of apartheid, the title reflects that at the time interracial sex was a crime, and a person like him of mixed race wasn't supposed to live in either the black townships or amongst white people. His mother, who is black, had to hide him to avoid having him taken away by the authorities. Born into poverty, even having to live on worms for a while and sleep in cars, Trevor has an indomitable mother who keeps him on the straight and narrow in a world where the dire social circumstances encourage crime and violence. Finding out what a tough start he had, it's incredible what he's achieved, although the book doesn't cover his rise to fame. Some have criticised his writing style as too casual but that's what keeps it so real for me.

Kelly wagers: This is the 3rd copy of the book I've bought. Well, actually the 4th if you count the youth version I purchased for my kids to read. It is an absolute MUST READ. It is a hilarious, heartfelt, eye-opening and an honest look into a world that my family has been blessed enough to know nothing about personally. I believe in the importance learning about what life is truly like for people all over the world and the tremendous hardships they've had to overcome. Trevor blends his exceedingly hard childhood with comedy, a positive outlook, respect and love. It's definitely a story of resistance. Highly recommend 1000% to absolutely anyone! I also throughly enjoy the audio book! He has a super soothing voice and his accent is very pleasant to listen to.

"nwsff0222": If you like books that easily deliver social problems/issues with entertainment, this book is for you. The book “Born a Crime” written by Trevor Noah is an autobiography that proclaims Trevor Noah going through his life in Africa. Throughout the book, it shows that Trevor being colored or can be defined as having more than one race/mixed was rare back then when he was a kid. The small stories in the book give us an image of what it was like to be a colored kid and how it went for him along with having Apartheid affected him. Even though imagining how apartheid was is pretty hard, he made it easier by using exaggeration to make it more familiar for the readers to understand.

This book is an adventure of Noah his race being colored troubles him in different areas from going outside to play with friends, which group to join in black or white, going to the groceries or walking with her mother, and when he is almost caught in camera when he stole the chocolates from the shopping mall. The book is also followed along with his jokes that ease the seriousness of the environment at the time and the wording used to describe how he can speak 4-5 different languages when he gets...

Duane Schneider: I didn't have many expectations going into "Born a Crime," which is maybe the right approach for a memoir. I knew only that Noah had become the host of "The Daily Show," and I was rooting for him as a relative unknown stepping into some big shoes. He seemed funny and charismatic, and I knew he was South African, but after reading "Born a Crime," I'm so much more impressed by its author. One expectation I had for the book was that it would be funny, which it is in many parts. Noah's writing style is not just conversational but natural; he is obviously a born storyteller. But he also structures the book in such a way that it builds and builds. Every story has a purpose, even the hilarious story of how, as a boy, Noah decided to poop in his kitchen. It's a story that ultimately depicts not only the poverty of his upbringing but also the superstitious nature of those around him. A refrain in "Born a Crime" is that when people have nothing, they must rely on faith. For Noah, that was always faith in his mother; for his mother, it was faith in God. It's truly a miracle that Noah has succeeded to the degree he has. I've read a lot of memoirs that left me wondering why the writer felt...
