I like this Ferro Rod a lot though. I’ve used it countless times, and is a reliable fire starter, though, I’ve bought some cheaper ones, and honestly, they work fine too. If you can get one $10 cheaper that’s drilled, just tie on your own lanyard. EricX Light, I believe is the brand I bought for my girlfriend and a friend of mine. Works just as well, and I think I got 2 for $10 less than this. Not saying don’t buy it, but if you’re on a budget, there are cheaper options that do the same thing (and 9 feet of cord isn’t getting you very far).

TITAN's ferro rod is truly unbeatable. I have used several different rods, and this rod works the best hands down. I've purchased the Gerber and a couple of other popular rods on Amazon recently. The price of this rod cannot be beat for the quality. The handle is made out of TITAN 550 paracord, and there is no way this handle will ever come off, which is a common problem with ferro rods. There is a hole through the rod which the paracord is looped through. The handle is easy to keep a solid grip while striking. The Pathfinder School recommends to use this size of ferro rod. Also, the paracord itself is amazing, with the different types of materials used inside (you should check it out too).
I have found the ceramic striker made by Wazoo Survival Gear, Inc. to be the best striker, hands down to use on this ferro rod. The ceramic striker makes it so easy to make sparks, and the ceramic is so light. I used size 36 bank line to attach a Wazoo ceramic striker razor blade to the top of the ferro rod through the paracord loop. It works together beautifully.
Made in the USA, and a company started by veterans. Great product and company.

Terry Murray:
I was given a discount for this product in exchange for a honest review. This is the 2nd time I have reviewed a Titan product. When I was looking to replace the para-cord I had on my gear I came across the TITAN Survivor Cord and bought a 100ft of it. Next was the TITAN Para-cord Bracelet. I took that out for a 8hr hike\camp and tore it down and used the para-cord and the sturdy clasp to set up camp help start a fire/cook some crayfish and purify water.
For the TITAN SurvivorSteel and survival para-cord with the waxed jute, wire and fishing line I took a knife my survival fishing kit a space blanket, 3ml trash bag and tarp along for a overnight down by the river. Its a nice 650 acre track of State land that runs the river bank. I was dropped off on Saturday morning found my spot for camp and got to it. I tore down the para-cord on the FireSteel and replaced it with a single strand loop to attach to my belt. I gathered some tinder pulled out about a 5in piece of the waxed jute un-frayed it and formed it into a small birds nest. With most any new FireSteel you need to strike it a few times to expose the Ferocium to create the spark, and does this ½in rod ever...

prongATOprongATO: Giant sized Ferrocerium rod! My first impressions are that it's very hearty and will last damn near forever. I was confused when they said could be used as a Monkey's Fist.. Until I had it in hand. If needed in a self-defense situation you could do some serious damage with this thing. The Survivor cord matched with it is a great touch. My only gripe is that I had to finish the crown sinnet properly. (You don't normally just cut off two strands and melt them) I removed the whistle and untied enough to get all four long enough to do a double-under crown sinnet finishing weave. (I will add pictures later) It makes for a much more professional looking termination of the Survivor Cord. I had some plastic C clips and used them to create a nice little place to hold it next to my fixed blade PDW Griffin. All in all compared to the other pieces I've seen on Amazon, the crown sinnet of the Survivor Cord warrants the price. I can't imagine anyone that wouldn't be happy with it. As you can see in the photos, I terminated the crown sinnet with an over/under pattern that prohibits the strands from coming undone. While the same two extra strands that aren't used for...
