Kurt Ellzey: I had originally purchased this as a gift for some people that really like scotch. They appreciated it, and agreed that it worked quite well for that purpose.
That being said however, there is also a dog around that loves playing with and tossing around ice cubes and other toys. On a whim, I gave one of the ice balls to them.
That was the happiest dog I have ever seen.

Robin Herzog: Just got this and couldn't wait to try it out! I filled the bottom tray with water first and then put the top on - you have to get it snug. I used the tiny funnel to top it off. I wasn't sure how much it would expand so I left some airspace. When I checked on them a couple hours later they were not all the way to the top so I used the funnel again until water came out the top. This way it leaves a nub on top but you do get a full sphere. You can chip the nub off with a knife if it bothers you. I had to leave them in the freezer for a few hours to freeze all the way. It's a bit tough to open the top once it's frozen, but once you get one side started it gets easier. I would suggest using a bowl or container to push them out into - if they land on the countertop they're going to slide off and be on the floor in seconds.
Great purchase!
I had gone to a fancy restaurant and they served my Scotch with one of these ice balls - now I get to have them at home!

Moe: I just began my foray into the art of bourbon and mixed drinks, and wasn’t satisfied with the way ice cubes from my refrigerator’s ice maker quickly melted and watered down my drinks. I could go into the way it distributes and cools more area between the cubes, but who really cares? I needed a slower melting method that wouldn’t overwhelm my drink with water, forcing me to drink it faster to prevent it from tasting watered-down rather than enjoying my spirits.
I know, there are non-ice cooling methods out there, but let’s face it, they’re not as efficient as ice.
The silicone top is nice, and grips onto the hard plastic bottom solidly. The divots and edges grab snugly, and prevent leaks. Don’t know how long it will last, but I got this one pretty cheap, I’ll be happy if I can get a year out of it.
Some tips I learned using it, and I’m sure others have many more. Make sure the silicone and plastic are room temperature and clean before filling, dry the parts that seal together well (prevents water from seeping in, affecting the seal). Press the silicone top on the divots with your fingers/thumbs, and run your hands around the outside to seal...

Ushan Premaratne: This is a cost effective option if you are looking at purchasing an Ice Ball Maker. There are other options out there which allow for a better final product in terms of the ice balls. This does however allow for 6 ice balls to be made quite quickly in a compact design mold.
