James M.: I’m not sure why that silly joke is stuck in my head. When is a door not a door? When it is ajar. When is a book not a book? When it is an invitation. In The Heart of a Warrior, by Michael Thompson, I found just that … an invitation to discover the life of the oriented, wholehearted Beloved Son of God. Not an easy undertaking but a crucial one. An undertaking made far more difficult while understanding neither the actual enemy nor the rules of engagement. What a revelation to learn that it was not all me, that there was an insidious force standing in opposition. Turns out I had been unknowingly tilting at windmills for years while being constantly assaulted in mind, body and spirit. Getting knocked down, knocked out and getting back up only to repeat the process. Barely surviving, barely living. To paraphrase Animal House - disoriented, naïve and wounded is no way to go through life. The Heart of a Warrior helped me to understand who I was, where I was and my position in the Kingdom. It’s an arduous process but more ground is being taken back every day.
This journey is not for the faint of heart. It takes courage to choose the red pill, to pass through the wardrobe, to...

Richard C.: I was first introduced to The Heart of a Warrior in 2017 after coming across the YouVersion bible plan. It was a time in my life, when I was starting to lead men into recovering their hearts, after the Lord met me and began a huge work a couple of years prior. After a reading through it a couple of times, and then in the summer of 2018, taking it more intentional and working through the Journaling workbook along side of it, it has continued to open my eyes, not only to what walking as a Beloved Son really means, but more so to the training and orientation that God is continuing to bring me on. As much as I love my church family, there is still something that is not being captured that a man desperately needs. Over these last few years, The Heart of a Warrior has become a continued reorientation tool for me and men that I walk with. Jesus asked me in 2015 if I would follow and trust him into the unknown. Not knowing what that would be like, I still said yes, out of pure faith. This last year, He has continued to walk me into more unknowns and even more challenging times. Things my wife and I never saw coming. It's been a season,...

JR: A mediocre read.

Nick: This is the 2nd most powerful Men's book I've ever read after the Bible! I can recommend this book to any man who truly wants to know how much he is loved as a beloved son from a Heavenly Father who loves with such extravagance. If churches taught this more men would be free to be who they are called to be, Beloved Sons of Heaven.

Marki Mark: I received two free chapters of "The heart of a warrior" Michael gives away on his website, and just downloaded the Kindle version while it was on sale over Father's Day (how appropriate!)
All I can say is "WOW"!
I've been reading many/most of the recommended "Biblical Manhood" books available out there, including John Eldredge's "Wild at Heart" 15 years ago.
And just like John doesn't just give you a "here-is-what-you-are-doing-wrong-now-MAN-UP" speech, Michael in this book goes much deeper than most other authors do.
Michael takes you on a journey you can relate with, and is very open and transparent about issues he faced in his own life. While many other authors also do that, he doesn't just stop there: Michael gives you helpful tools to dig deeper and, most importantly, GET SOMEWHERE! And that's what I find so refreshing: not just touching on the hard heart issues, but also offering you remedies and what to do about it. I came out of this refreshed, encouraged and deepened in my walk with God w/o being hammered by any of the typical "you-fall-short" or "though-shalt-do" feelings.
One word of caution, though: this is NOT a book you can/should...
