I have tried for years to bake bread, using regular yeast, and never could get light tasty loaves. Then I tried making my own sourdough starter; so many sites saying it was easy. After several bags of flour and many failures I finally tried this SF Sourdough Starter and it worked, just like she said it would! Easy, quick and the loaves are light, pretty and taste great!
Funny that it's name is from a different state, but then who's ever heard of Texas Sourdough?!

[UPDATE] I had an issue with my first starter, which might have been my own fault, but the seller sent me a new packet no questions asked.
Life got super complicated after that, and the starter sat on top of my fridge for 18 months. I finally reactivated it and baked a couple of fabulous loaves (new photos added to this review).
Not only is the starter amazing, but this seller is as well.
This starter arrived quickly, with an excellent instruction book and the bonus bowl scraper which I didn't realize I wanted/needed until I had one.
The starter was healthy and I saw bubbles within the first five minutes of activating.
Other reviewers have noted that they weren't able to achieve the desired amount of sourness. I did not have that issue. I tend to do a long proof which creates more sourness. Sourdough is not only an art, but a science, and controlling the temperatures of the proofing will yield different results for sourness and leavening.
I experimented with this batch and used a reptile heating pad next to the jar in the crock from my crock pot to maintain the desired temperature in my house which I don't use the...

PROS.
This vendor provides not only a carefully crafted genuine sourdough starter, but also excellent follow-up and care. I have made plain sourdough bread that rivals craft bakery sourdough, it is hearty, lively, and now in my overland kit for all my jeep expeditions where I cook for others. I am currently prepping sourdough jalapeno cheese round, will taste some, then vacuum seal and freeze the rest for another test. Next, I will keep my stash for both home bread and expedition starter. I am confident that this starter will provide an excellent base for Jeep travels. I am a cast iron cook and can only tell you that the first batch in Lodge cast iron loaf pans was excellent. I look forward to sourdough biscuits and gravy in the wild.
CONS.
Once I made my starter from SourdoughBreads, I have no need to purchase from them anymore. My starter is already planning re-birthing to my friends, written in my trust and passed to my kids, and shared on the trail during many encampments. I guess this is the best CON you can ever give to a sourdough starter vendor; I have no use for you anymore...you have done well by providing me a lifelong batch of...
