Kindle Customer: There are numerous recipes that sound delicious and that I intend to make. Beyond those recipes are the stories, history really, which are what makes this cookbook like no other. I read it through in one setting and I have never done that before with a cookbook. Get this book for the recipes and read it for the stories.

yhuang: I got this for my parents. They really enjoyed the stories and remembered the locations - one of them having grown up in Chinatown in the '50s. As a Toisanese, it made me feel nostalgic as an ABC myself. Some recipes were authentic, some more contemporary. I did not appreciate there was foul language in the book since I had to censor it when reading it to certain audiences.

CeeJay: We were so happy to find this book. Great stories and delicious and very accessible recipes. We have loved getting more into Asian cooking and this was a great addition to our cookbooks.

CeceCece: I love the stories and the life it gives the recipes. Unfortunately, the recipes were not well tested and sometimes just not that good. We loved the Char Siu bao filling, but the bao dough as written is so sticky you can't work with it, so I end up kneading flour into them for 15 minutes until one could handle the dough. I made it again and added just over 1/2c more flour and problem solved.

The pork master filling may as well have been the shrimp master filling as that was all we could taste and wasn't pleasing with the seasoning. Same for the master veggie seasoning. None of the family enjoyed them and I wouldn't make them again.

The OG egg rolls were awesome, though. Would definitely make again.

I will look for another cookbook (and help from Poj, with some translation assistance!) to help correct the recipes going forward.

Deb: A great tale of NYC’s Chinatown. Brings me back down memory lane of making the trek from Brooklyn into Manhattan to have dim sum with my family every Sunday. The only thing missing in this cook book is a recipe for egg tarts, a classic.

AP: The stories and recipes in this book are touching and so relatable to anyone born to Chinese immigrant families. It’s beautifully written and really funny - I read it from cover to cover.

For those like me whose main connections to Chinese culture is through the food of our parents and grandparents, this book is such a gift - it was like finding a piece of home I didn’t know I was missing.

fay y moy: I loved this Cook Book specially with so many Chinese receipes that reminded me of the Old Chinatown neighborhood....I've purchased couple of this book to shared with Family and Friends. I am so grateful the Author Wilson Tang tried to preserved his own legacies and also introduced others like Fong On ...I know the Eng family personally and with their own struggles to keep the Business running.. I found this Book on CBS news when Wilson was being interviewed .For those who grew up in the Old Chinatown, these are the type of dishes we grew up with..Now the readers can learn to recreate and travel back in time when going out was a treat ...Thank you Wilson for bringing back these Happy Memories for those who are not able to visit Chinatown in New York City...
