Dr. Tim Parker: Unlike just about every other Patterson book, this one lacks murders, cops, threats, and various mystery and thriller gimmicks. Instead, it's a book about two women and their pursuit of horse jumping, and the people around them, as they aim for the Olympics. Without revealing too many plots, this is a different style novel from Patterson, but after the first few chapters you get hooked into the story quite effectively. The writing is excellent and leads you chapter to chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story even without blood and gore!

Jen Peters: First, as a hunter/jumper rider, I loved the show jumping scenes and their accurate details. I can see that getting boring for a non-horse person, tho.

Good writing, fast paced, and some interesting characters. The first chunk of it wasn’t what I expected from the description, but it got there eventually. Sort of. The competition between the mother and daughter was the one place it fell down, for me, and I would have liked a slightly different ending.

I liked the happenings with the trainers and the women’s relationships, good stuff happening there. Our two bad guys were menacing and vindictive, but not to the point of thriller, and rather one dimensional. I would have liked some better character development and resolution with the rider. The ending left me flat.

Loved how the dad stepped up and had the skills when needed, loved the no-sass determination of the women (grandma rather stole the show for me), loved the underlying issues and how deftly the trainer’s disability was handled.

PG13 rated: lots of s*** and one f-bomb, but no scary violence and no on-page sex.

Hazel: This is one of the best books James Patterson has written and I have read most of his books. Great storyline and great characters, to top it off it’s about horses.
