TonyCoach: Clever little device that has independent adjustments for resistance during inhalation and exhalation. Great for those where strong, controlled breathing is important --- athletes, singers, and woodwind musicians! Or, for anyone with ailments where they want to improve their lung capacity. I noticed an improvement for myself. I can naturally breathe more deeply and completely than before. I noticed my endurance while swimming is improved. It has been claimed to reduce blood pressure a bit too. Instructions are quite good on its use and maintenance. A bit over-priced. Some folks say you can get similar results just by breathing through plastic straws, but who knows.

Kindle Customer: The principal behind this is sound. I had a massive heart attack doing wind sprints. I'm 62yo and not bright enough to slow down. I started breathing treatments a few days off ventilation and I truly feel better. I have a positive expectancy for hitting 80. I am a vegetarian now and had my cardiologist and the surgeon ask me what I'm do
ing. My blood panels were remarkable.
This breathing technique was one of the first thing I tried. The progress inspired me to keep trying.

W: Since using this product for a few weeks I can't overstate how much my breathing has improved! During the day I feel excellent and no problems at all. During sleep my blood oxygen levels no longer drop below 90%. Actually they're in the mid-90s now whereas they would always be 90% or below during sleep. Sometimes getting dangerously low.. I took 2 approaches.
1) I used this device to strengthing by diaphragmatic breathing. Ensure that your belly is expanding and deflating when you breathe! When I strated using the device I could hardly blow out at the lower settings. Now 6 weeks later I am breathing in and out at almost the highest settings. It is still challenging but the results are amazing and I'm getting better every day. I no longer feel like I'm struggling to breathe throughout the day and I feel like I have good health for the first time in years!
2) Although this device strengthens diaphragm by using the mouth to breathe, apart from that, I now primarily breathe through my nose whereas before I was mouth-breathing, which seems to be extremely unhealthy for me and NHS says we should breathe in and out through our nose and that the mouth is for eating, not for...

Kevin Boone: [Update after six months]
I've been using this for six months, and I feel that my original review remains correct: the device is well-made and robust, but I'm unsure whether it actually helps. I gradually worked my way up to using it on maximum resistance and, although it no longer hurts my chest, it hurts my abdominal muscles instead. Since diaphragmatic breathing is the name of the game, perhaps that's a good sign? Who knows?
Using it 2x3 times a day requires an investment of time and effort. I'm really not sufficiently convinced of its effectiveness to continue with it indefinitely.
[Original review]
I've recently suffered a series of pulmonary embolisms, and I've been aware -- perhaps "obsessive" would be a better word -- of my breathing for the first time. I've noticed that I have inefficient breathing patterns that probably pre-dated the disease, perhaps by decades. I've been looking for a device that would encourage diaphragmatic breathing, and this "Breather" seems to be in the right ball-park.
On the positive side, the device seems to be well made. Other reviewers have complained about theirs falling apart of clogging up, but so far mine...
