Melc: Included this in my kids homeschool reading and my 5 year olds absolutely loved it! They loved it so much in fact that we finished within a couple days and they requested I restart it. Some of it may not be completely appropriate for 5 year olds but we had no issues with it here.

GrJohnson: This book fell apart within two readings. I’m a teacher and gentle with books. I didn’t crack the spine, but it came apart anyway. Darling little story - read it to third graders and showed the movie.

emleighaemleigha: Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl : 978-0425287842

This hardcover edition is really quite nice: vibrant dust jacket colors with fun art on mid-weight, laminated paper.
The story itself is crisply printed in red ink on smooth, nice qualtiy paper. The book itself is, overall, delightful.

The crisp red text -- printed on very smooth thick, ivory-ish colored paper -- is fun. The paper used in this book is smoother and thicker than the other Roald Dahl titles of the same edition and publisher (not sure why).

Sadly, the shoddy binding leaves a bit to be desired (one part of the book that I received looks like it's about to rip apart) -- see photo.

APK: I will not mention the film made by Wes Anderson based on this story.
This is much simpler and begins already married fox that supports his thievery.
Two issues with children reading this and humanizing non domesticated animals.
The justification of the Fox when confronted by badger about steeling…is convinced by the silver tongued fox. So is his justification justifiable? Is it anymore or less justifiable if the Farmers were slim tall dark and handsome? Or is it OK because they’re depicted as greedy.

Why make it a point with a rhyming little song?
“One Fat, One Short, One Mean” so it’s OK to steal from them…or they’re trying to kill us.. The fox is killing their chickens!
The absurdity is the obsession with catching the fox making it impossible for them not to steal but that’s after losing patience and tolerance.

The other problem be it stories or animation, this running theory that Foxes love fowl. I know that the smallest Red Fox in the Northern Hemisphere is the size of a small regular dog, and the red fox is a Canine. Foxes are scavengers and can eat almost anything. They will not attempt to steel fowl. They prefer rodents,...
