SpaceQueen: I teach statistics, and use the TI calculators all the time. Mostly I use a TI-84. Unfortunately, it doesn't always show up on the overhead projector very well. For that reason, and to have a spare for students who forget theirs, I decided to buy the new back lit version. The difference on the overhead is amazing! This shows up great. Not only that, the graphs look much nicer than on the old one, and it has a few additional features that the old one doesn't. Considering that this was marked down due to package damage, I got a good price on it as well. I really didn't see that much damage to the package, but I sure did love the price!

Only one caveat - the calculator doesn't seem as robust as the older models. It is nice and light though, so I suppose that's a trade-off. I didn't think the blue was quite as pretty in real life as it is in the picture, but I didn't buy it for looks, so that's fine with me.

This is a great calculator, I love it to death and is very easy to use. It has a very long battery life so you will only see yourself charging it about once a month. I grew very fond of this calculator until the screen cracked after having it for a little over 2 months.

I regret not getting a third-party warranty for this, but the options here on amazon have lots of fine print that make them very complicated to get a replacement, and TI's warranty does not cover this sort of thing, as it only covers possible failures by malfunctioning software or manufacturing errors.

The actual crack is not in the glass itself, but in the screen that displays the image (The pictures show it, evidenced by the big puddle of black chemicals seeping out of the crack).
I have no exact reason of why this happened, but I believe it was in part of the built-in screen cover not protecting the screen very well. In other calculators, the cover will slide on from the top, protecting the screen from stress; the CE's cover slides in from the bottom and leaves about a centimeter gap between the screen and cover.
