TEKTON 1903 Rectangular Magnetic Parts Storage Tray

OhKeeNoOhKeeNo: This was my second purchase of the 9-1/2" parts tray. My first one is amazing! I use it all of the time for holding those little screws that seem to wander away after I remove them from something I'm working on.
I wanted to support a US business and purchase another Tekton product.

The item I received was not what I ordered. As you can see in the picture, the tray is not Tekton (who is Grip?), it has only one magnet, I may not have the best eyesight, but I know 3" is not 9-1/2".

My first hint that something was off was that it came without its own packaging; just a tray in an amazon bag. I wonder how many hard drives and other electronic gizmos were erased by this little guy in the delivery truck?

Colin V.: I bought this to hold loose screws while working. Once again, I underestimated how large this item is. It can almost hold a full-sized hammer. But at least it's not too small and the magnets are pretty strong.

JMMorton: I picked this up after losing a bolt somewhere near the front fender. It's still out there somewhere and I ended up having to take a separate trip just to replace it. As an after thought, I bought this thinking it might help avoid trying to search around for parts and knock into the unknown.

It's way heavier than it looks. The magnets are really strong. There's no way any magnetic part would get out of the tray. I've used it on a few auto projects and it's been useful. So far, no lost parts using it. Its basically a metal tray with magnets in it, which means I think it'll last forever.

My only minor grievance is that magnet coverage for the tray could be a tad better. Don't get me wrong, it's a great product, but slightly larger magnets or a different material for the tray would have ensured anything placed on it stays put. If I place smaller fasteners on it toward the edge, they don't always catch on the magnet, so it reduces the useful area of the tray for me. For larger screws and bolts this would not be an issue.

Highly recommended.

- Fairly strong magnet
- Good sized tray
- Rubber wrapped magnet on the underside to reduce chances of scratching things

The Not So Good:
- The sides are a little shallow

An easy way to keep track of everything during a project that has a lot of nuts and bolts. The magnet is pretty strong which is good that you won't lose things but not too strong that you cant get them back. The tray is a good size but I find that the side walls are a little shallow for my liking. Would have liked a tray that was a little deeper. The best part about this is that the magnets on the underside have a rubber layer on them so that if you are removing the tray from a metal surface, it doesn't scratch it or less of a chance that things will get scratched.

Christopher Lang: This is the second Tekton parts tray I've purchased. I originally bought a smaller circular one and used it for a handful of small car projects (and radio-controlled car projects) and quickly decided I'd need at least one more (if not several more). I decided to get a much larger rectangular one to hold tools like screwdrivers and wrenches in addition to little nuts, bolts, washers and miscellaneous ferrous parts. It's very strong and the smooth surface makes it easy to pick up the magnetized parts. The big one (this one) is now a permanent part of my toolbox and the smaller circular one is now a part of my radio-controlled car pit box. I might end up with a few more because they're do dang handy. If you work on nearly anything and you need somewhere to put and hold screws, washers, bolts, nuts, tiny parts, tools or anything ferrous you owe it to yourself to get one of these. You'll use it once and then find other uses for it; guaranteed. They're just super-duper handy.

A. Eddy: I love this parts tray from Tekton. It's a good size, meaning you can stick plenty of stuff to it, including pretty big wrenches, and the magnets are strong enough that screws, washers, nuts and bolts won't go flying if you bump the tray. The strong magnets also mean it will stick very well to any ferrous surface, like a tool box or the side of a car, and the rubber feet on the magnets means it won't damage whatever you stick it to. The tray has a nice shiny finish and is also covered by Tekton's excellent warranty, which means if you have any problems with you can send them an email and their excellent customer service will take care of you.

There's not much else to say about this tray - get one if you find yourself losing screws, nuts or bolts often, and that will be the end of that problem!

George Legeza: This tray is absolutely gigantic. I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting since the dimensions are right there in the product description, but it's easily large enough to hold an assortment of sockets, bolts, extensions, and even a small ratchet or two. The magnets are strong enough to keep everything in place and the tray itself can be stuck just about anywhere in any orientation. So far I've had it stuck to the side of my car (use a rag or some paper towels to protect your paint; the rubber isn't particularly soft), to some open space in the engine bay, and upside down above me while working under the car. In every case it stayed on perfectly and none of the items stuck to the tray felt like they were at risk of falling off.

If you need a really, really big parts tray, then this should work just fine. I give it four stars only because larger items don't stick to the outside edges of the tray very well, and that means you have to be careful where you place things if the tray is mounted vertically or upside down. The polished surface scratches pretty easily as well, but that's hardly a big issue for something like this. It is very easy to clean, however, which is...
