Gigi: Only one family member - the one with a sensitive nose - was bothered by the smell of gas in line to the gas stove. The Techamor gas leak detector confirmed that leak, surprising everyone about the lurking danger. The leak was slight, and the tip had to be place around the joint in the old valve before it triggered the beeping. The gas company came out and confirmed the slight leak, and fixed it. This is definitely an invaluable tool if you have gas appliances. It is important to follow the directions in order to prep and use the detector properly.

RJ WindhamRJ Windham: The media could not be loaded.  In a state of shock and surprise that this device, with just the batteries loaded and the manual read immediately located a reasonable gas leak and likely helped us to avoid a disaster. For nearly a week my wife noticed an odor that took me a while to pick up in our basement. Eventually I could pick it up and maybe it was getting worse, because I noticed it more over time and assumed a gas pipe got it's seal broken near our new furnace during the install several months back. After reading the directions, I powered on the device, waited for warmup (10-15 sec) and adjusted the side knob down after the beep got louder just walking into laundry/utility area. Went all around the pipes near the furnace, opened the panel and wanded the inside area where gas pipe meets valve, no sounds. Traced the gas pipes back over to the area above the gas dryer and the lights picked up, moved it down to the flex hose behind the dryer, then to the bottom and magic, it all lit up. Repeated several times and know where the problem is. Turned off gas to the dryer and will replace the flex hose. Felt confident the unit worked by holding the wand near the stove burners...

Michelle H.: I had been smelling gas in our house ever since we moved in more than 2 1/2 years ago. Nobody else in my family was bothered by it, but it bothered me immensely! Everyone kept saying it was normal to smell a little gas when you use the oven or stove, but it didn't seem normal to me & it made me nauseous. I could smell it all the time, even when the oven & stove hadn't been used at all.

I bought this little device to confirm my suspicions that the gas was actually leaking. It was very easy to use & worked perfectly! One little tip: at first I didn't find anything & wondered if it was working at all, so we tested it with a Bic lighter as other reviewers have mentioned & discovered that the sensitivity was turned down too low, so go ahead & turn it up until that first red light comes on & the ticking stops or nearly stops.

We located the leak coming from a worn out connection on the back of the oven. Fixed the connection, no more leak & no more nasty smell!

The only downside to this device is that it doesn't tell you how much gas is present, only that the gas is there. This is not really an issue though since I only needed it to...
