We used to have a Thule brand bike rack which was supposed to be able to carry two bikes. It was just terrible! There was no way we could carry two adult bikes without partially disassembling them. What a hassle!
We purchased the Swagman Chinook Hitch Mount Bike Rack and are very, very happy! It is vastly superior to the Thule product we had and it's cheaper too. With the Swagman, it is very easy to move the bike tire holders around and this makes it easy to adjust the bike positions so that everything fits well. The bike rack is quite sturdy, it sits further away from the car than other brands, and it secures both the frame and the tires. Loading and unloading is very easy.
We love this bike rack!

Delivered in New Brunswick within a week. Heavy for one person to handle. Attachments for the two bikes are easy to work with and sturdy. Happy to see that there are locks and keys for the bikes on the rack and the rack on the car. We used this Swagman Chinook for our two ebikes that weight 43lbs each for our trip of over 1500 kms with absolutely no problems. We just bought it and it keeps the ebikes in place with no movement or noise. I love the feature that it folds in two different ways to bring the rack closer to your car bumper when it is not in use.

It's secure! Bikes don't bounce around at all! If you are looking into this rack because you are concerned that the hanging style racks would allow the bikes to get banged up, then you are not alone! THIS RACK IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Once you have the wheels secured in the trays and have the frame support locked in, the bikes WILL NOT so much as wiggle..
I cannot stress the security and dependability of this rack enough! I'm a bit of an OCD man and I'm not particularly fond of my things getting banged up and scratched, and this rack just puts my mind at ease! 584 mile round trip, from Alleghany county Virginia to Lancaster SC and back, and our Motobecáne Cross Uno Pros didn't so much as wiggle! The rack is easy to assemble even though the directions are minimal, and once you have the bikes off the rack or you aren't hauling them, the rack folds up really neatly!
Let's talk quality of the rack itself. The rack feels solid, and has a nice thick painted coating! The wheel trays, and frame locking hooks aren't cheap either. The racks been on the truck for several weeks now...

I am very pleased with the Swagman Chinook Hitch bike rack. I've carried two 45 lbs bikes on it now for over 2000 miles with no issues. Mine arrived in good shape, with the packaging intact. Assembly was straight forward, just followed the instructions. I loaded up two bikes and went for a test run. While the bikes seemed to ride OK in the rack, I thought there was more movement than I would have liked to see. This is really an artifact of the (probably any) 1 1/4 inch receiver that I am using. I'm using a Reese Towpower hitch. So, I bought two CURT 18050 61-Inch Bike Rack Support Straps. This controlled the movement of the bikes nicely.
To load bikes up, the rack tilts toward the rear of the rear of the vehicle. This really makes getting the first bike on a piece of cake. The ratcheting frame catch can then secure the bike and you can tilt it to the travel position in order to load the second bike. Wheel nests are adjustable and have good quick release straps on each one.

Like anything else in life, make sure to do some maintenance and cleaning (lube moving parts with grease). If you drive on dirt roads, wipe off the grits and dust on moving parts to ensure proper movement and long-term durability.
