Ira D.: Works as described but if's way too easy to get all 3 balls to the top, and I"m working with a partially obstructed left lung and recent surgery on the lung. I think it will only be useful for those with a pretty severe impairment, very soon after surgery or for those who are bedridden.

Brenda Coates: This is OK for the cost. I couldn't get the balls to rise at first, then realized that there was an air gap around the mouthpiece. I wrapped my fingers around it tightly and it worked correctly.

T. Steyaert: Many years ago, my father had pneumonia and got a "toy" from the hospital where they were treating him. The spirometer he received had a capacity of 4,000 ml. This appears to only have a capacity of 2,700 ml/cc. In the days as a semi-competitive swimmer, I could barely peg his version. This one's fairly easy to maximize.
If working with limited lung capacity, this will help show your lung volume and hopefully improvement in your lung volume. For athletes, this probably doesn't have the capacity you need so I'd look elsewhere.
