Coder: For light-duty home use, this is fine. I bought it for my son who works as a ship fitter, so has to mark hardened steel parts all day long. For such heavy use, we ended up replacing these with a Swiss made, carbide tipped centerpunch, which stands up to that abuse better than this. (The price difference is less than 2x).
Think about your expected usage, to see if it makes sense to spend a bit more on a tungsten carbide tippped punch.

Tyler Frogley: Used this to stake a castle. It seemed to be too narrow of a tip as the staking appeared too deep and not wide enough.
It got the job done but would recommend a wider starrett face

Mr Triggs: OK 1st off, it's a 100% genuine Starrett product and as such a great piece of solid engineering. Round shank feels good, much better than a square one, the weight is spot on and the knurling is just the right balance of grippy and comfortable. It's a Starrett, what else would you expect.
One point to consider is that I ordered a Model 117-C and received a Model 117-D. To me it makes no difference but if you have a 'D' and need a 'C' you may want to confirm with the seller before ordering.
Other than that great service and great product.
