Kindle Customer: The 18c takes a bit of force to use but it makes a great simple in hard steel to use as a start for drilling. Wouldn’t expect anything less from Starrett.

Webster L Aday III: The punch didn't work straight out of the box for me. Luckily I've had a few different brands and sizes of automatic center punch. My old General punch does the same thing once in a while. Unscrew it and make sure all parts are screwed in snug inside, then it will work just fine. Feels like a solid automatic punch. I have replaced the tip on my General punch with a Starrett tip in the past, so I assumed this punch would have a replaceable tip. This one does not, so you may need to dress up the tip now and again.

Jarno Käsnänen: Honestly just disappointed. Looks the part, but crunchy to use. Tried to do a bit of deburring and extra greasing, but some of the sloppy tolerances and how the spring is interacting with the mechanism are probably mostly to blame. The striking mechanism doesn't work 1/15 times or so, same as with my other two 18A-Starretts.
I honestly can't tell a significant quality upgrade to my cheapo Chinese automatic centre punch. Well, that one hasn't misfired yet actually.
I had assumed people raving about Starrett quality would mean something, but not with this product.

Charles Clark: This center punch tool succeeds where others fail. It is a bit pricey but it is worth every penny in my opinion. I have used this tool many times and it has not failed me yet. This is my go-to tool when I need a center punch. I threw my other one away because it did not even compare! I highly recommend this center punch tool.
