Steve: I just came off of the roof from installing this. It’s a tight fit and slides over the outside of the stove pipe. After coming down I thought about putting a couple of sheet metal screws in it but I had already put the storm cover on and sealed it. I like the way it fit so now we wait for the next rain . I hope my leak worries are over

M. Allen: I bought this particular chimney cap because I wanted one that was better quality than the $50 HD special that everyone seems to have. I had to replace an existing cap from the 1980s that was missing the top and letting rain into the chimney. The new cap was pretty easy to install, just insert into the chimney. Gotta say though, I'm not sure where my $80 went because this thing is not $80 worth of anything. It's pretty thin flimsy metal and the welds are tiny. I'm not holding my breath that it'll last longer than a year or two up there. That said, there weren't many options for an eight inch chimney, and this one at least looks good.
Also worth mentioning is that the packaging was awful. The staples that originally held the top closed came loose and it was not well held closed with packing tape. The actual cap was also slightly smashed on one side. Looks like maybe heavier box was placed on top at some point or something. Neither of these play into my rating, just worth mentioning. I'm not worried about the smashed side as it was only to a slight degree and it's not noticable unless you get right up to the cap, which isn't going to be an issue.

Tom L.: Installed this cap 5 years ago. Using it on a large wood burning stove on top of a 12 foot stack which I sweep 2 times each burning season here in Ohio. No sign of rust or breakdown. Fits snuggly inside an 8" black pipe which has a rain collar which I attach the cap to to keep it in place. Going to buy another one just to have it on hand for when this does go bad but that may not be for a while.

BOATS99: Fit my pipe fine but had smoke in the house after first fire but may not be the cap i could use a new door seal and i run a fan over the wood stove so just be aware never had a problem before with this stove and have had maybe 3 or 4 other caps over the past 25 years.i did some work on my stove and now there is no smoke in the house anymore. I would recommend getting a 2 stage smoke detector as MINE COULD NOT DETECT THE SMOKE IN MY HOUSE SO ORDERED ONE THAT COULD FROM AMAZON VERY IMPORTANT !
