D. Harrison: It works and found an outlet with an open ground line. Now I just have to figure out why, can see the wire connected to the socket. My "easy to read" rating was just 3 stars as the printing contrast is rather low, not all that easy for an old guy to read, light gray on dark gray. Luckily if just the two orange lights come on that is all I need to know.

Ranger Joe: I had another brand for 30 years before the plastic shell broke. After some research, I bought 3 of these - 1 for me and 1 for each of my sons. They are easy to use, easy to read, and there is no faster way to check an outlet for compliance. You might only need it once a year... but when you do, you will be glad it is in your toolbox.

Kyle Tracey: Good tester, not a lot of flash but it does its job and is holding up well. It can be a bit hard to read in bright light but once you're familiar with the correct lights on the tester you can adapt by shading with your hand.
I use it daily, not a diy but professionally, so for the price great deal. All testers break and wear out with use, this one has done very well so far and has the added GFCI testing feature plus it's small and easy to carry.

Warren: The Southwire 40022S Receptacle Tester is a handy tool. Having the legend printed on both sides of the tester makes it easy when outlets are installed upside down. The GFCI test button is very helpful when testing a GFCI that's installed upstream on a circuit with plain receptacles.

Alan T: This is a well made tester which has helped me identify faulty wiring. It is worth the small premium over some cheaper units, as it includes a GFCI test button and has the legend on both sides of the device.
